^ nah not that hard....catch mtr to 'sa tin' and then switch to bus...and bam your there.... yupz octupus card def. must...!!! ya can buy anything with its amazing...!!!..i even used it in a big department stores and grocery stores even mcD's..!!!!!...<3... are you going to go the 'ocean park'..??..thas funn..or even hk disneyland..?
Ocean Park for sure! No HK Disney though... I've been to disney world and disney land already multiple times... don't really need to go again
Yeah I'll be keeping most of my cash in the hotel safe, just bringing enough for the a day at a time. Going to switch out from my burberry wallet as well... I'm generally really careful about my pockets though, I usually always have my hand on or around my wallet when im walking in a crowd. Good advice though!
Yes stay away from Disney HK, it has next to nothing to do (unless you enjoy buying souvenirs and queuing). Ocean park is much better and cheaper. The cable car to the big buddha is ok (dont get the glass floor one, its not worth the extra $$). Ladies market or temple street for the typical crappy souvenirs/fake goods and night market experience (haggling essential) TBH in all my time in HK, Ive never been pickpoketed nor witnessed it. Not to say that you shouldnt be careful but you honestly dont have to walk around with your hands in your pocket... HK has like a million malls, if shopping is your thing. All the famous ones will house top brands, but if your looking for off beat shopping then plenty around TST or Mongkok. Always ask for discount or special deals. Plenty to eat, i suggest checking http://www.openrice.com/english MTR is cheap (but shut down around 12.30am), busses are cheaper and minibus are all night. Taxis although much more expensive than public transport are actually quite cheap (Red ones go anywhere in HK, green ones only allowed in new territory). As already mentioned before, once you get to Macau, all the casinos have free shuttle busses to and from, unless you want to see the attractions which are not near the strip, but you can get bus or taxi Clubs and bars in the usual areas lan kwai fong, Wan Chai and Knutsford Terrace. Its like HK$50 for a pint of draught beer. If you wana see something different you can always go to the museum (srs) the HK history museum and science museum are next to each other in TST and both are free on a wednesday. HK is pretty much about shopping and eating.
lol i wouldn't worry too much about where your hotel is cos hk is small and mtr is quite convenient and ya octopus cards are so handy lol... why don't they have them in sydney ffs
Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Tsim Tsa Tsui, MK = food heaven If you feel like looking at the tech/games, wan chai has a few dedicated shopping centres high branded stuff like lv,gucci go kowloon elements or causewaybay timesquare The company that made Octopus Card is actually behind the t-card system in syd, but that failed hard.
I'm thinking I'll hit up the science museum one morning for sure! I'm on science museum street after all hahaha. This is all really good advice, thanks! That Open Rice website especially should come in handy!! Also, the guy who invented the Octopus card graduated from my university apparently, kinda interesting coincidentally.
Also when you arrive at HK airport, just before you pass immigration, theres a counter with all these free maps and guides in all different languages. Just grab them all and throw out the useless ones when you get to the hotel or not. They are really useful especially the maps. The science museum is awesome, last time I went it was having the 'Illusion' exhibition, it was insane.
if ya plan on going to lots of diff. places it might be better to just book one of them 1 day tour thingys... works out cheaper to get from place to place yourself....plus most toursss include a meal or 2....!!! and the even better thingy is ya can just walk into any travel agency and book one straight away well thas iff they have places and everything...but coz ya on your own and everything but should be okies =]
just came back from HK yesterday, i find cheung chau also a nice place to visit. Its 33 min-55 min with the boat from central depending on what ship u take. Other places on lantau island worth visiting might be tai o, mui wo etc... but those are maybe better if u have friends going with you, cuz u can bbq, go to the beach. The seafood in sai kung is indeed pretty damn good. Sai kung is not hard to get around, take the MTR to either hung hau/ma on shan/tiu keng leng or any other places near sai kung and there are busses that take you to sai kung. Then in sai kung there are other mini busses that take you to other beaches in sai kung/rice fields and other nature sight seeing places etc. as for macau its better to get up as early as possible cuz there are days that the tickets are sold out and you have to wait hours to get any ticket. you can visit Ruínas de São Paulo, visit hotel lisboa/temples/the fortress or even go to the show of zaia since they're in macau till december???? (from cirque du soleil). most of the attractions in the northern island of macau can be done by walking, if you're lazy you can take the casino busses. Some of the casinos in the southern part are also pretty nice to visit such as the venetian casino
white boy going to hk eh better make a youtube channel teaching others to speak chinese holla. make dolla dolla and deny the other white boy.
