Today, parts of New York City (close to the water) is being mandated to evacuate. -shock I just got back from vacation and had to immediately step into survival mode thinking. Went and bought a week's supply of water (enough for whole family) along with a shit load of dry and canned goods. I looked on in amazement at whole lines of people in the check out stocking up on piles of frozen goods that wouldn't last more than eight hours if their power ever went out. Mrs Ralph used to poke fun at me for buying MRE's, but now even she openly admits that it was a great idea to always have some on hand. Shit, an earthquake and a hurricane in New York? ...all in the same week? Who wudda thunk it? -rolleyes At any rate, I'm hoping that there's still time to stock up on propane fuel (the kind that you use to make Chinese style tabletop hot pot with; just in case the gas lines get disrupted or shut off. Anyone else here affected? Comments?
yeah? well I'm going to be in the middle of this storm on Storm Duty working for National Grid, helping people get their power back and any other damages caused by this storm.
I'm about a mile or so from the coast... But still, it's just on the safe zone. Internet is already kinda slow. I don't expect any internet service or dish TV. Probably no uploads from me. The streets were full of people buying goods to prepare for the hurricane. It's really humid inside the house but kinda breeze outside. It's raining heavy at times and gone the next. If I'm bored, I might just go to the backyard and get a feel of the conditions when the actual hurricane hits... 5-10 inches of rain, 70-100 mph winds... Best stay indoors and do a hot pot. Lucky have have tons of stuff to watch unless we have a power outage, than we are screw...Hope that won't happen...
i'm in the mandatory evac... moved uptown to higher ground only time will tell to see what happens now!
We're counting on you Thank you for your kind thoughts. During these stressful times, it's nice to know others care Ha ha... yeah, I know. We're supposed to know everything but when something like this happens, it really shows that we don't know jack. -what? As for moving, it's still in the planning stages (maybe for the next year or so), depending on a lot of factors (housing prices mostly).
lol..... don't underestimate power outages... one failed relay can cause cascading failures across from station to station across states
dont get that stuff in the UK, well a tiny tornado came once and totally wreaked a couple areas years ago but thats it. hope ya'll make it though with little to no damage.
im scared already >_<....i just hope water and power wouldn't cut off...i'm have 2 phones and computers charged already for preparation. and bagels and water.

LOL... I don't believe it, this is one of my favorite websites. Great for MRE singles and a la carte (broken packs) if you want a select item without having to buy a whole case. At any rate, like I had mentioned above, I was all over the streets of Flushing looking for Butane cooking fuel. It wasn't even five o'clock yet on a Saturday evening, and Flushing is normally a very frenetic downtown area until the late evening. But let me tell you, it was like walking through a ghost town war time curfew. Just about all the shops were closed, and the ones that weren't were packing up in preparation to shut down. Many were plastered with the X's of wide swaths of masking tape (against having glass windblown and shattered). All the remaining ones I found still open and doing whatever small business there was to be had, were unfortunately sold out of Butane fuel canisters. I was just about to give up when I walked into the Hong Kong Supermarket on Main Street for a final try. I took the right fork around the arcade, and was immediately disheartened as I saw the metal roller gate was all the way down to the floor, and the lights were dimmed. But being determined, I walked back around the arcade to the left aisle to see if that gate was down too, ...just to be sure. Amazingly enough, it was still open, with two customers paying at the checkout; and one of them had about four packs of butane fuel on the check out counter. I immediately dashed in, pointed to the cans on the conveyor, and shouted, "where'd you get those?" The cashier gestured with her chin, "over there... (somewhere in the store). I didn't wait, I just ran further in the dimmed deserted market, and nearly went right past them in my haste. To my horror, there was only two packs left. Thankful for my good luck at finding some but still lamenting my bad luck at finding only two, I was about to walk back and pay for them, when I knocked over the standing price sign behind them. I debated picking the thing back up as I took the last two, and as the store was closing, the sign wouldn't be much use anyways. But, being rather anal, I turned back and stood the small sign back up on top of the cardboard boxes that it had been sitting on. What? Cardboard boxes? I looked down at the sealed cardboard box, and read "Petroleum Gases, Liquefied; Butane Gas Cartridge, 28Cans." Dumbfounded, I stared momentarily at the letters. Recovering my composure, I dropped the two packs of butane and pick up the case instead. Cosmic justice? God rewarding those who do the right thing? Or, just dumb ass luck? I don't know, that kind of shit's too philosophical for me. I caught a lucky break and I'm certainly not about to ask questions why. To all my friends here who are also courting Irene; stay safe folks. And I hope your luck is at least as good as mine
it was like dead in downtown this morning... empty... and yah... midtown now is like, no1 either yet the lights are still flashing at times square LOL im getting hungry =( least i have water
