Changes to checked baggage policy Consistent with the baggage polices of other major carriers, Air Canada is revising its checked baggage policy for tickets issued on/after September 7, 2011, for travel on/after October 11, 2011 for customers with an Economy Class ticket as follows: For travel between Canada and the United States*, a first bag fee of $ 25CAD/USD applies; For travel between Canada/USA and Africa, the Middle East and Russia/ Asia* and Australia/ South America* a second bag fee of $70 CAD/USD applies. Also effective for tickets issued on/after September 7, for travel on/after October 11, Star Alliance Silver as well as customers who are not a part of Air Canada’s Top Tier program holding an Executive Class/First ticket will be able to check two bags at no cost instead of three bags. The second baggage fees already in place for Economy Class travel to/from the Canada, USA, the Caribbean, Europe and India will remain unchanged. We invite you to view our complete checked baggage policy, including exceptions and other important details. *Please view our complete checked baggage policy for exceptions.
your title is misleading. There is no allowance for checked bags any more. You have to pay $25 for a checked luggage and $35 after which other american airlines have been doing
Naw, For international flights which alot of us take, allowance has been dropped to 1 bag, the 2nd you must pay $70s. So technically still allowance just less, but for flights to the US there is no more allowance and goes by pay per baggage :(. Looks like im going to have to think before buying stuff when traveling.
ya, you should still make it clear because your title doesn't represent International or Domestic flights. You could have just written "Air Canada to charge for checked bags" or something. You can always fly with another airline but ya, if I go to Asia, I need to bags unless im there for 2 weeks. Oh well, Air Canada might see some loss in customers and gain revenue from existing ones http://www.moneyville.ca/article/1048110--air-canada-to-charge-for-checked-bags
Thats true, I'll change it so its more clear, Yup, but my parents usually collect points on some card and we use those points to buy airline tickets, but it only supports Air Canada so its really bad news for me :( Source http://www.aircanada.com/en/news/trav_adv/110901.html
So if you travel to US from CND, it's $25 for 1 luggage? Then $70 for TWO bags?! That's stupid, why do you have to charge for checked bags? & this is for economy too. Might as well upgrade a class if you can with those $70 without any checked bag cost.
Airlines are losing money in the face of fuel increases so they try to find elaborate ways to pay for this loss. IMHO, air carriers should just do with what package carriers traditionally do, ie. charge by weight. ie. Carry on that weighs nothing? Free. Same carry on but containing a 200 pound dumbbell set? Then pay by the pound. Passengers should be the same, as even clothing manufacturers have figured this out. Super sized, or double and triple X sizes usually cost more because they take up so much more raw material. This has been a socially sensitive issue that airlines have been traditionally afraid to broach, but makes perfect sense as weight is the final arbiter of operational costs when it comes to transport (If gravity didn't exist, then it wouldn't matter. But since it does, there is no way around this physical constraint and it's effect on fuel consumption). Charging for incidental things like carry on only serve to piss off the public. The rub of this of course is, that customers will learn NOT to bring carry on and instead, cram everything into their pockets. So airlines would still have to transport the weight and won't be able to charge for it, LOL... :rolleyes2:
LOL, I like that last part, huge ass jeans or sweatpants that have custom sized pockets ahah, Yup, but I believe theres already so much extra fee's that you have to pay to travel already, now theres this too, such a hassle now. Charging by weight is a good idea, maybe a plan where you get a certain amount of weight free, then charge per 5/10 pounds or something like that.
USA is the country with the highest obesity rate by far, beating runner up Mexico by 6%. Air Canada doesn't want to piss them off and majorly lose business. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/hea_obe-health-obesity
But the hook obviously is that less weighty consumers would flock to the weight based fare carriers as they will pay less er, ...freight, so to speak. In that sense, (according to your chart) Koreans collectively would probably pay the least in air fares. And this story just gets me angry: Southwest Airlines Boots Skinny Woman Off Plane for Fat Passenger
There aren't only 28 countries in the world XD. But yes Ralph you do hold a point. For every solution, another problem arises.
Wow sucks to be that women taken off the plane, at least give her something as compensation not just another ticket to SAC. I laughed when it said people could have thought she was a terrorist LOL
Air Canada feels like they are losing revenue which adds up to millions a year and like any other company, they don't care about consumers and just want money...this is sad and i really hope to see a fall in sales
Its like like 4 years+ since i've ride with Air Can. Last time i went HK was United Airlines. I hated it, no personal tv or electronic plug. Also had transfer flight. Then the time before that was Cathay. It was better. Dad wanted to save money & had to go UA way. Saved like $300 per person.. but it was a hell of a ride getting there and back. I kinda do miss riding Air Canada or even a direct flight to HK. Lol. But with them charging for 2nd luggage, then its pretty stupid. Though Asia had the * and i dunno if HK is an exception.
