well i have a mini backpack for my slr atm its full, carrying 50 f1.4, flash, spare battery, batteries for flash, filters >.< i need a new one as its getting old and worn out but its served me well!! =) the mini tripods work fine for the p&s, i guess slr is a lil more annoying yes those "camping" trips, carrying a million things seriously, my carry on to the plane literally consists of camera, camera accessories, laptop and laptop accessories and its full >.< ughhhh lucky d7000 not in stock, so feel like impulse splurging! LOL
LOL... Yeah, sometimes having money in one's hand is the worse thing if there is no self control (and too many nice things on the net).
Just got the Lumix LX5 in yesterday and it is absolutely fantastic; everything I wanted in a camera. It my hand, it feels almost as tiny as my previous Canon credit card size camera, but the amount of control that it has is great. On a lark, I went back to Snapsort, and compared it to my other possible choices, the Canon G12, Nikon P7000, Panasonic GF1, GF2, and Sony Nex3, Nex5; All lost to the LX5 except for the Nex5, which tied. Considering that this camera now sells for under $400 USD, it is remarkable. Panasonic certainly has hit on a winning formula with this one. Oh, I just wanted to take the time to mention that Panasonic's battery for this camera is now fitted with an electronic circuit that is recognized by the camera itself. Sort of like an electronic ID to let the camera know that it's a real Panasonic battery. If not, the camera will shut down. They say that they do this to prevent counterfeit batteries from damaging the camera and protecting consumers from possible fake battery explosions; but really? At the cost of five or six time the price? Sounds more like merchandise protectionism, IMHO.
Well, after getting my new camera, of course, there are always the important accessories that one, ahem... must have. In that vein, I just saw a really funny video about neck straps. This reviewer has a delivery that is priceless. But this guy is like the spitting image and persona of a goofy character called "Joey" (played by Matt LeBlanc, who perpetually said and did funny shit without realizing it or meaning to).
This was a fun read. I've since bought a Nikon P7000 (Used off Henry's for $320) and I'm blown away by it. I wish I had just gotten this or a Canon G12 right off the bat. As nice as my Olympus EP-1 is, especially in the retro looks department, I honestly feel that the portability of the Nikon makes it a far better camera for day to day use. I debated between spending $300 and getting a Panasonic pancake lens for my EP-1, but for the price I decided I might as well just buy a whole new camera. The P7000 shoots some amazing pictures without tweaking any settings. I really see why people look to Nikon for providing really deep colors and nice depth of field.
The Nikon D3100 is indeed a great camera, but we're talking major differences as it's also an exceedingly large camera. It does just about everything better than an LX5 but is much heavier, larger and costlier. You know, the Nikon P7000 recently dropped in price too. One can be had brand new on Amazon for $374 USD, with free shipping. I myself was reluctant to go with the P7000 because of the reported shot to shot speed. I know that many of the P7000 fans are waiting for a firmware update to help solve this issue but I rather have "a bird in the hand" so to speak. Other than that, you're right about the Nikon image, just about every review I've read sang praise to the image quality of that camera. Nikon remains a very tough competitor.
i still want the d7000 but then i also want a new backpack and tripod and lense (was thinking the 10-24) too many things >.<
well it's been a while and that "want" feeling is coming back... so time to bump this back up! so... is the d700 worth comtemplating?? otherwise could settle with the d300?? arghhhhhhhhhh
