The TVB drama, Men With No Shadows 《不速之約》, starring Raymond Lam (林峯), Bobby Au-Yeung (歐陽震華) and Tavia Yeung (楊怡) premiered last night. Previously, the scene of Raymond’s character, Tai Fung , biting a red apple was accused of plagiarizing the Death God character, Shinigami Ryuk, from popular Japan manga series cum 2006 movie adaption of it, Death Note 《死亡筆記》. After watching the scene, netizens felt that only the concept of apples was similar but as they continued watching, they unexpectedly discovered a blooper in another scene. The scene was about Bobby Au-Yeung’s character, Kong Tung Kin, who was driving a car when he suddenly landed into a car accident. However, netizens spotted that the model of the cars before and after the accident were distinctively different and mocked that the television production budget was limited such that they couldn’t even afford to crash a brand new car. Driving a brand new car but smashing an old car Last night, the drama was portraying about how Bobby’s character was resurrected after the car accident. Although the colors of both cars (before and after the accident) were white and the numbers of the license plates were similar, the differences in the models still couldn’t escape the shrewd eyes of those netizens, who highlighted of yet another oversight in the drama. Some netizens asked everyone to turn a blind eye as television production budgets cannot be compared to those from the outside world (they meant Hollywood blockbuster films), finding an old car to crash was already considered good enough. Raymond Lam’s biting of an apple: Pure coincidence? As for whether “Men With No Shadows” was guilty of plagiarism, netizens felt that an apple could also symbolize the forbidden fruit of Eden which represents temptation and denotes a devil (In the Christian fable of Adam and Eve, the serpent who was interpreted to be a devil, Satan, tempts Eve to eat the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge in Eden and everything changed forever as innocence was lost.) Thus they felt that it was perfectly justifiable for Raymond, who was acting as a devil, to eat apples. The netizens also pointed out that it would be even more weird if Raymond were to eat bananas in the show instead. On the other hand, some netizens also pointed out that the plot from “Men With No Shadows” was rather identical to TVB’s classic production, You Only Live Twice 《飛越十八層》which starred Michael Miu (苗僑偉) and Jamie Chik (戚美珍) and shared similarities with the 1997 horror film, The Devil’s Advocate and the 1998 romantic/fantasy movie, Meet Joe Black. I've only watched the first ep, but it really did seem like the crashed vehicle wasn't at all similar to the one he started off in. Crazy mods though. Didn't think they would make Bobby a car-guy doctor, though the car craze part probably won't be emphasized again in the drama.
Lol I didn't realise! Wow the person who stated that The apple symbolises the knowledge thing on PA is smart =p They even raised it up. I knew there would be complaints lol.
well the big give away was the white rims too... after it crashed they show it spinning around... and can clearly see its an older style car rim with like a missing hub cap
That difference in vehicles was so obvious and we all saw similar things happen all the time in many other Asian dramas. But it seem like they aren't even trying hard enough to cover it up...
I was so quick to notice he had racing seats... and the car the flipped was like crap and I was like that can't be his car....
