Michael Tse's role as Laughing Gor in Lives of Omission has been a big hit, the drama series had high ratings and received TVB's special treatment by hosting a celebration event. On the contrary, Steven Ma's The Life and Times of a Sentinel which also had high ratings on the finale, was not treated the same way. Steven wrote on Weibo expressing his feelings that TVB plays favoritism. When Michael learned that Steven had this reaction, he said "If he really thinks this way, then his thoughts are not mature enough. It's like a child blaming parents for not buying toys for them to play with. For a series to be popular, it depends entirely on the numbers and audience response, it does not rely on self-bragging." As for Steven, yesterday he took part in Eileen Cha's radio interview. When speaking of the rumors that he is planning to terminate his contract with TVB early, he said: "There are some things I'm still discussing with the company and it is not convenient for me to say too much now." He said he is the 'mother's boy' in TVB and has never thought of leaving the company. He also denied that he's on bad terms with TVB executive Virgina Lok. Yesterday Virgina reveals she has not receive Steven's request for early contract termination. Regarding the incident that Steven felt displeased by someone turning down his new series Legend of Yuan Empire Founder, Virgina expressed it was because of issues in the contract conditions and the group of executives couldn't accept it. Later, the issue was settled with investor Tsui Siu Ming and eventually the plans for that series ended. Virgina said she knew long before that Steven had a knot in his heart, but she already made efforts to comfort him and hope to resolve his issues. Another TVB executive, Tsang Sing Ming, explained that Lives of Omission is the highest rated series so far this year and the film version had to be promoted, so more activities were planned for the series, it is not favoritism.
even if steven ma was cast as the lead in lives of omission, he still wouldn't have had the support michael has garnered through the role. michael just seems to fit the laughing type of role.
TVB has always been that way, support who's hot at that moment but of course it's important to have higher ups support as well.
didnt he get the memo maybe he should give ms virginia lol sum good head before he complains! :trollface2:
Who doesn't know that TVB plays favoritism lol, we watch the series depending on who is in that drama and 'must watch' series.
Favoritism? Wonder how that came up ... could it be because of the audiences? could it be because audiences = $$$? follow the money ... which actors / actresses is able to bring in a bigger haul of money. That's TVB's concern ...
steven ma is gay remember? he can't match MICHAEL TSE. michael tse was a fk up in young and dangerous. man. times have changed.
TVB treat their actor/actress as their money maker, but without TVB they are "Ka Lei Fei" TVB have the power to promote/demote any actor/actress because they have the power. TVB wont give them huge salary and want them sign contract with a ridiculous price or terminate you forever if you reject.
Michael Tse is a very charismatic, versatile and talented actor. Comedy role, bad guy role, good guy, chok guy you name it, he can handle them all outstandingly well. ...Steven Ma on the other hand? dull+boring since forever... even Wayne Lai talked shit about him in one interview...
.... yeah... he is dull and boring... because he's always been given a similar role to act that's why! It's not ma jai's problem!
I'm sure they would give him other roles *if* he could actually play them well... fact is, he can't, he's been given the opportunity to play comedic roles before but he's just not funny at all...
never really been a fan of steven ma but it's still sad to see him go if he does, which is where things seem to be heading now.
I've never watched a full episode of lives of omission, but then again I never got on the laughing gor bandwagon. Plus casting Fala Chan and Katie Tusi kind of ruined the show for me.
