I don't know, but the last few series, TVB just doesn't seem to have any Mojo any more. It seems that even their prime time offering are just limping along. I find myself downloading but not watching anything beyond one or two episodes of a new series these days. Is it because of me and changing tastes or does anyone else also think TVB is losing its panache? I mean, other than gossip about the actors, IMHO of course, there doesn't really seem to be anything creatively interesting from TVB over several months now.
The endings are always rushed and the stories just don't make sense anymore. I am a huge TVB fan but am also losing the will to live sometimes when I watch the drama.
TVB series = anti-climatic ... they're all about creating these bullshit endings that supposedly HK people have been wanting, yet they all complain... series where all the character dies, endings that just end without explanations, series that are tense and full of over-the-top plots seem to just fizzle and die at the ending cos they just don't know how to end a damn show like they used to...
I think one that's really different from the regular is When Heaven Burns (天與地). Totally a new idea that TVB has presented, but yet i feel bad for them for receiving shit ratings. I find it good.
Should check out the TVB x RTHK - ICAC Investigators series, great actors and storyline. 2011 2009 2007 etc.
Thanks for all the comments everyone. I agree that TVB still does offer an occasional "good" series. The point I'm getting at is, that TVB used to be great with just about all its series and rarely hosted any duds. Now it seems the duds outnumber the hits as a matter of routine. Further, having a great series done in by a crappy ending isn't so bad, as the series remains memorable, even if the closing scene was contrived. But I'm talking about entire series where the whole show itself, from start to end, is just another ho-hum that doesn't compel one to take steps to follow and download. In other words, I used to actively chase after these series. Now, I couldn't care less if I missed the entire set. I know it can't be bad acting because the players are all still more or less the same people. So is it just poorer writing, direction maybe?
personally, i think tvb series have been crap since the 80s. you have the rare good ones and like everyone has mentioned a good series turns to crap because of a crap ending. The first series i ever watched was The Yang Female Warriors (Liza Wang was in it - a very young liza wang!) and till this day i still remember it. The Shell Game was good too. I remember all those series from that time period and series now don't compare to it. The writing sucks, costumes sucks and generally the acting isn't so great. Maybe if they re-watched it and think back to the good ol days they may come out with something decent and worthy of viewer appreciation.
