i used kaspersky but i couldn't reset the trial version for 2012.

so i am back to step 1 .. no security ...lol

any suggestion? i could use the version from the bank for free for a year but it's automatic renewal so a hassle having to call and cancel; not to mention my memory sucks nowadays.

anything free .. share .. thx!

Microsoft security essentials. Thats what I use anyway.

    Bank ones are crap.

Avast! Antivirus is good, it's free and it keeps your computer safe.

Thx but Avast sucks BIG time. It's so sensitive that keep alerting every single websites I visited including PA. It drove me NUT.

I like MSE; however, it doesn't do much. In fact, I had a virus in one of the files and wasn't detected with MSE at all. Scary.

Bit defender sucks as well. Anymore rec????

I heard Microsoft Security Essentials is pretty good. Avira and AVG are not too bad as well. All of them are free, though Avira has a non-free suite version as well. I am currently using ESET Smart Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. All good and ESET still has a long time to expire :D

You mentioned that MSE did not detect a file with a virus, so I am curious to know what happens if you upload the file to http://www.metascan-online.com and http://www.virustotal.com . Do all the other antivirus detect it ? I just want to know if MSE is really that crap compared to the rest.

MSE is most definitely not crap (at least, currently >.>), especially when combined with a good firewall.

just tried and it was detected. i don't know .. it appears that i have to stick with mse regardless cuz no other "free" antivirus software that's working out thus far.
