Some of it reminds me of a previous TVB series awhile ago with the red spot on her face. This is so far more of an easy going funny first episode...
from the trailer it has that "cant buy me love" comedic feel. Roger and Fala i may try this even though it's ancient.
I usually give ancient dramas like a 3 episode trial. Episode 1 wasn't bad so i'll jus keep going until i dont understand anymore ~
LOL... Fala with a map of Texas on her face, ha ha... But seriously, take a look at the number of Keh Leh Fehs given prominent roles in this. I guess TVB is really scrapping the edges of their stable as more and more of the prime stars are leaving for greener pastures.
Not Fala again, getting boring watching her, she's not even that great, don't like the cast except roger.
Just a question; so is Ben Wong gonna play a heavy again? Poor guy always seems to get the shit end of a script. Maybe he's already type cast and they're reluctant to use him as anything else, but you can't help but feel sorry for him. He's actually a fairly capable actor. Sadly he always seems to either be a bad guy, butt kisser or generally all around ass hole. The problem of course is, that TVB shows then tend to be very predictable as in, "Oh, that's Ben Wong, OK... what evil shit is he up to in this show?" I mean, there's no longer any hint of suspense or surprise because you already know he's guilty as soon as you see his face, LOL... TVB ought to really mess with people's minds and have him Ben Wong play a hero while the usual (leading actor) good guy turns out to be the real culprit. Fans would be talking it up if that ever happened.
This series was probably shot before the TVB anniversary, so he might get better roles from now? Anyways.. series aint bad and i actually understand it. Might continue on.
True, maybe Ben Wong may now luck on better parts as TVB is so short handed in their top ranks; time will tell. At any rate, I'm a bit bothered by this premise that a discolored face is going to turn off so many people. I mean, anyone can tell that Fala is hot even with that Texas blot on her face. But, that said, given also the historic fact that many Chinese men in Dynastic times were never lucky enough to even have wives, historically, she wouldn't have been shunned at all. Considering that she is a "mountain" girl, she would have had entire villages flocking to her door as her 'infirmity' doesn't stop her from survival work, ie. hunting, gathering and all the other daily peasant shit that Chinese really had to do back then (hint, there weren't any Walmarts). Essentially, Chinese took wives not because of their hotness; one married a woman because she was hardy as an ox, and would be able to bear children. Thus, it didn't matter what she looked like as a man would be considered lucky to have her. Frankly, a girl the likes of which is being portrayed by Sharon Chan (skinny, not strong and supposedly pretty?) would be the last choice on anyone's marriage list. She's exactly the type of 'survival: useless' kind of girl that gets sold to Chinese brothels, LOL... In terms of hotness though, Koni Liu has them all beat; she can't act for shit, but damn, with looks like that, all she needs to do is stand there and their ratings will go up.
Ben has that evil face lol when he first started in series "A Kindred Spirit " he played such a nice guy probably the nicest character you'll ever meet but after that tvb gave him scheming /evil dude chars hopefully he can be like Rucco and get some good guy main roles in the new year!
I don't like this series ,it's very boring.not funny, storyline can't understand it. Fala can't act,Roger alway acted very similar to most series.
Agree with every post made by Ralph and yeah Koni doesn't seem to have much makeup on (possibly due to her status) and she still look stunning! Yup, Fala is too good looking to portray this character. She still look good with that birth mark lol.
And of course, in the latest (ep 4) installment, Ben Wong is... Spoiler: revealed to be ...the good ole back stabbing self serving son a bitch that he always is, LOL... Now we realize that he actually stole Roger's intended bride by concocting that 'don't marry before 36' fortune teller's warning. I bet he's also stealing funds from the royal treasury and spying for a competing state And respondent KKHome888 raises a good point; Roger Kwok is pretty much poured from a cast iron mold; ie. he's rather inflexible. No matter what you want to play him as, he will always resort to the "Ah Wong" type of mannerisms which don't always work. Thus, he comes off as an immature clown regardless the role he is cast into. While this worked tremendously to his advantage in that past Ah Wong 'retard' role; that seems to be the sum total limit of his acting ability. IMHO, he's a horrible two dimensional actor that shouldn't be allowed more air time than a Keh Leh Feh.
i don't like fala.. nothing special about a girl with red patch on face. many show have this plot before. but i like ancient drama so this is comedy, quite nice so far. i like SHaron!!!
TVB should do more of these kinda drama. From the get go, it kind of reminded me of Journey to the West, feng shen bang, which is good stuff. Sharon is ugly, she looks kinda like nikki from that bottled passion drama, urghhhhhh. 'Long legged crab' is nice, wanna see more of her.
