Since its release, the Ip Man <葉問> movie franchise has been wildly successful, grossing as one of the top Chinese movies of all time. Martial arts star, Donnie Yen’s (甄子丹) portrayal as Ip Man was highly praised, while his martial arts power captivated and stunned worldwide audiences. To the delight of fans, it was announced earlier that Donnie Yen may be reprising his role as the Wing Chun grandmaster in the upcoming Ip Man 3, also dubbed ast Ip Man: The Final Chapter <葉問终极篇>. Filming was scheduled to start in August 2012. Based on Ip Man Producer Raymond Wong’s (黃百鳴) preliminary discussions with Donnie Yen and the original cast of the movie franchise, the cast indicated interest in partaking in the third installment. It was also reported by Chinese media sources that rising martial arts star, Rose Chan (陳嘉桓), who was featured in the prequel, The Legend Is Born: Ip Man <葉問前傳>, will also be starring in the Ip Man: The Final Chapter. However, the life blood behind Ip Man, Donnie Yen was currently busily filming Special Identity <特殊身份> with Vincent Zhao ( 趙文卓). Afterward, Donnie will be filming The Iceman Cometh 3D <3D急凍奇俠> opposite Daniel Wu (吳彥祖). Donnie will need to complete the current movie projects on hand before he can dedicate time to film Ip Man: The Final Chapter. While Donnie had expressed interested in exploring other film genres such as comedies, his forte remained in martial arts action films. Practicing martials arts under the guidance of his mother when he was 4 years old in the United States, Donnie later studied with the Beijing Wushu Team. Perhaps martial arts talent was indeed hereditary in the Yen family, as Donnie’s 4-year-old son, James, also exhibited natural talent. Donnie said with a laugh, “My son, James, never watched [my] movies, but he kicks and punches all day! I do not know where he learned that from!” Director Herman Yau (邱禮濤) has started the pre-production preparations for the filming of Ip Man 3 this summer. Dubbed as Ip Man: The Final Chapter, the Chinese movie will shoot at Xiqiao DreamWorks, China’s second largest filming studio after Hengdian World Studios. Located in Foshan, Guangdong Province, Xiqiao Dreamworks was the new billion dollar (Yuan) venture which offered movie makers an impressive 8-million square feet filming base, while serving as a theme park to Chinese tourists. I thought Donnie said he wouldn't be making a Ip man 3 :O, but I sure do hope they make a third movie! On the other hand...if they can't keep up with the quality of the first two then it's better to stop. Too often concepts are getting milked out to boredom >_>
^ I would agree but I can see where the plot comes from, that was what it was like during those times and still not as rare as you think today for the white guy to show disrespect to oriental Asians. Back then the Brits owned Hong Kong, you can only imagine how it feels to be oppressed.
Personally I watch Ip-Man not for the plot but the fighting sequences. Part 1 however was still way better than 2 in terms of storyline. I don't know how they're gonna progress with a Part 3 but if they have Yuen WoPing as action choreographer, I'll definitely watch it. Part 1 was beat the Japanese, Part 2 was beat the whites. Part 3 might be beat everybody except Chinese?
It was a great 2 movie though I watched it few years late. Hopefully the 3rd installment would be great
Looking forward to the fight scenes. Like others have said, the obvious duty of revolution theme is getting really annoying.
What else can you say about Ip Man anyways now that we got all these IpMan movies. They should do a movie for each of the Tigers of Canton BTW: IP MAN 2 was ruined by the second half, had they kept it to just Ip Man trying to earn his respect in Hong Kong amongst the local masters, it would have been a great movie with great drama. The boxer VS Ip Man was incredibly unrealistic and even outdated, enough with the Chinese is better than the rest of the world that we have to whoop a foreigners ass to prove it. Bruce Lee started it.
Should be because at the end of Ip Man 2, young Bruce Lee showed up. Damn I thought this thread was a troll or something because he did say he won't be making another sequel. Thereby, leaving Ip man 2 as the last movie. Looking forward to it regardless but I hope they don't release too much trailer like they did to Ip man 2, it totally spoiled the whole movie content.
How come in the movie "Bruce Lee, My Brother", Ip Man didn't teach Bruce Lee? He says he was too old and won't accept anymore students.
IMO it is because it was done by a different writer so as a result there was no direct link between the Ip man movies starring Donnie Yen, so different storyline. People's perception will therefore be changed.
if i remember correctly, Ip Man barely taught Bruce Lee, it was his oldest disciple who taught Bruce Lee
Cant wait!!!! And yes Ip Man did train Bruce at the beginning but at the end ip's senoir student worked with him at the end
