OK London is holding the 2012 Olympic, thats fine by me. But whats dumb is that the government is over spending on the building and sorting out of the stuff for the Olympic!! Are they wack?? The figure is still growing aswell and the government is still spending like made!! I think by the time the 2012 Olympic comes London will be so poor!! Stupid government officials!!
that's what happening in vancouver and the 2010 winter olympics.....government spending so much money on the facilities
but china's got heaps of money to spend, so i don't really think it'll affect them much whereas for us, we're all gonna b soooooooo poor.... =/ govt will b in debt once the games are over... its like the olympic park here, theres nothing there... no1 uses it... apart from the occasional event....
all cities that have ever hosted the olympics have had to go through HUGE amounts of finanical um crap to make it happen and they never make a profit ALTHOUGH, it always helps the tourism industry for decades aftwards but then again, how more publicity does london need?
Yea but for london their gonna use the stadiums for the games then their gonna probably close it down straight after and try and sell it off to a casino company of some random japanese man just like they tried to do with the millennium dome
london should be the last place in the world for the olympic for those of u who live in london dont tell me u guys like the commuting here it takes me 90 min to get to uni every day ya know the trains are so packed during peak times and the official says irs gonna be worse next year too dont even think of driving you'll end end up in a gridlock london is the worst place the travel around, you cant imagine how much time u need to get from A to B Central london is always packed withppl, like leicester square oxford st and stuff if the olympic comes prepare to shut all the road coz there wont be enough space on the pedestrian walk well maybe i am exageratin here well u can imagine
They might use it as a tourist attraction afterwards... like the one in sydney... dont u think its cool... something big is going to happen in London! Oehhhh i wish i could go to london soon... Shopping is great there XD!
London is alreayd one of the most expensive cities on this rock. Was there for a while and see that everything is more expensive than the European continent. The city is just too crowded and if the Games are there, I'm not sure if public transportation can handle it. The London Underground for instance is already packed, although many people walk to office due to the bomb attack a year ago.
Here is some proof: World's most expensive cities Moscow surpasses Tokyo as priciest metropolis. Asuncion, on the other hand, is still a big bargain. By Jeanne Sahadi, CNNMoney.com senior writer June 26 2006: 10:00 AM EDT Top 10 most expensive cities 1.Moscow 2.Seoul 3.Tokyo 4.Hong Kong 5.London 6.Osaka 7.Geneva 8.Copenhagen 9.Zurich 10.Oslo, New York NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The vodka may be cheap, but according to the latest cost-of-living survey from Mercer Consulting, Moscow now ranks as the world's most expensive city, edging out Tokyo, which held the No. 1 spot for four straight years. Moscow ranked No. 4 last year, but rose through the ranks for a few reasons, according to Mercer senior consultant Rebecca Powers. The currencies of Tokyo, Osaka and London -- the top 3 cities last year -- fell relative to the dollar, while the Russian ruble remained fairly stable. Plus, Powers added, the price of housing for expatriates in Moscow has risen considerably in the past 12 months. The weakened yen places Tokyo in the No. 3 spot, just behind Seoul, while Osaka fell to No. 6. London, meanwhile, still makes a pricey showing at No. 5, making it the second most expensive city in Europe behind Moscow. It's followed by Geneva, which ranks No. 7 worldwide. "For many companies it can now be more expensive to send employees to work in Russia or Korea than places like Japan or Switzerland, which are often perceived to be more costly," Powers said in a statement. The survey uses New York City, ranked No. 10, as its cost base -- scoring it at 100. Then it compares the prices of more than 200 items, including housing, household goods, food, entertainment and transportation in 144 cities around the globe. Mercer found that Moscow costs 24 percent more than Gotham, while Asuncion, the perennial last-place finisher, costs about 56 percent less than life in the five boroughs. In the United States, the most expensive cities are New York, Los Angeles (No.29 worldwide), San Francisco (No. 34) and Chicago (No. 38). In Latin America, Sao Paulo (also ranked No. 34) and Rio de Janeiro have the highest cost of living, while in in Asia, the most expensive cities are Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong (No. 4). Eastern European cities like Budapest (No. 65) and Prague (No. 50) that don't use the euro dropped in the rankings from last year as local currencies fell against the dollar. Sydney at No. 19 remains the costliest city in Australasia, far ahead of Melbourne (No. 74) and Brisbane (No. 99). The cheapest cities in the world are Paraguay's Asuncion, Zimbabwe's Harare, Buenos Aires, Manila, Pakistan's Karachi, India's Bangalore and Uruguay's Montevideo. To give a sense of just what life costs in various cities, Mercer priced out the cost of a two-bedroom unfurnished apartment, a cup of coffee served, a fast food meal and an international paper. In Moscow, the apartment will run you $3,000, the coffee $5.27, the paper $3.40, and the burger with fries $3.87. By contrast, Buenos Aires provides a better deal price-wise, to say nothing of warmer temperatures. You can nab the apartment for $999, the coffee for $1.47, the paper for $4.55 and the happy meal for $2.77.
Gee, things change very quick around the top 10 :( The top 10 most expensive world cities 2007, where the cost of living is highest are: 1. Oslo, Norway 2. Paris, France 3. Copenhagen, Denmark 4. London, United Kingdom 5. Tokyo, Japan 6. Osaka, Japan 7. Reykjavic, Iceland 8. Zurich, Switzerland 9. Frankfurt, Germany 10. Helsinki, Finland Source:The Economist Group Sorry, ladies no bargains in Paris LOL
^@2006 list> I am surprised that Seoul is on the list ahead of Tokyo and Hong Kong. It was in my impression that the order would be Tokyo, Hong Kong, Osaka then Seoul (the four in relative). It really depends on how one's to live, that's the living standard right? I don't know, I would think many more Scandavanian cities be on the list (not that there isn't many already) But I guess it's just me then =_=b @2007 list> Oh...
I think Hong Kong is cheap but thats only me London Transport wont be able to cope with the olympics cos there cant even handle the normal amount of people that lives in london now so how can they handle like thousands of spectators??? And their gonna rise the price for locals which is dumb. They expect us to pay more and more for a service which is getting worse and worse
Hong Kong's not cheap if you really live there, get a job (since salary is not really THAT great) but then again if you have migrated to UK, you probably already in the rich (or at least semi-rich) bracket so that's why you think it isn't THAT expensive. And if you have a job in UK and spend your salary in HK on vacation? Your money's well spent, you get more than your money's worth (relatively speaking).
