ATV revealed the final twelve contestants for its 2012 Miss Asia Pageant earlier this week. ATV will adopt the one person, one voting format to increase the mass excitement for its pageant, despite the miserable technical failure of TVB’s Miss Hong Kong Pageant this year.

At the press conference this week, the twelve Miss Asia contestants wore low-cut dresses, showcasing their long-legged figures.

At first glance, not all of the contestants possess busty figures. Of the twelve, only Scarlett Chan (陳超) and Allie Huang (黃一晴) stand out from the pack. Allie bounced and shook her way through the catwalk. On the down side, contestant #7 Lili Xu (許麗莉) was picked out by the media to have a pair of thick thighs.

Labeled as the hot favorites that possess star quality, contestant #5 Annie Qi (齊真晨) , who was dubbed as a Kay Tse look-alike from Anhui, and contestant #8 Ellen Yu (于建茹), who was labeled a tanned version of Cheryl Yang (楊謹華), both made it to the final twelve. The photogenic Eurasian looking Bianca Wong (黃壁安) also made it.

At the event, the contestants introduced themselves in Cantonese. Not surprisingly, many contestants from mainland Chinese spoke with a heavy Mandarin accent. Mispronunciations popped up occasionally and generated much laughter.

Scarlett Chan, who is from Hangzhou and currently a fashion design student at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, embarrassingly said she was really nervous and revealed she had been taken to the wrong destination when taking a taxi in Hong Kong. She also said most of her classmate at Polytechnic spoke to her in Mandarin to accommodate her, but she will try harder to practice her Cantonese. She does not have many friends in Hong Kong, and believes she will be at a disadvantage with the new voting format.

One of the favorites, 31-year-old Ellen Yu, said she is not worried about competing with younger contestants. She believes her hobby of reading manga makes her feel and behave younger than her true age. Although her education level is not as high as her competitors, Ellen feels that she has more experience in life (she has worked as a model in China). When asked if she thinks she resembles Cheryl Yang, Ellen said that she agrees with the comparison. However, when up close in person, some reporters complained about how Ellen’s skin texture is not that smooth, and there are blemishes on her chest.

The title of “Miss Friendship” was given to the 28 year old, Gaga Tse (謝嘉慧). The petite contestant indicates she has a sister-like relationship with most of the contestants, while using Twitter to interact with the others. She also feels that her figure is not as sexy as the other contestants, and envies the long legs they have. As a local girl, Gaga said that she will get all her friends to support her in the audience voting.
