Presented as “Asia’s No. 1 Music Festival”, Korea’s Mnet Asian Music Awards, known as simply MAMA, was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on November 30, 2012. Over forty global stars attended the music event, and is one of the most star-studded events to be held in Hong Kong in recent years. MAMA surprised the audience by inviting popular worldwide acts such as K-pop sensation Psy, Adam Lambert, and B.o.B. Chinese superstars, Jackie Chan (成龍), Joey Yung (容祖兒), Leehom Wang (王力宏), and Angelababy also attended. Unsurprisingly, Psy was among the stars that took home the most awards that night. Super Junior also took home the most prestigious award of the night, “Best Album of the Year”, beating out hot competitors, Psy and Big Bang. Although primarily a Korean pop festival, MAMA also paid homage to local Hong Kong and other Asian stars. The host, Song Joong-ki, performed a Korean version of Leslie Cheung’s (張國榮) “The Feelings of Those Days” <當年情>. Jackie Chan and the cast of Chinese Zodiac <十二生肖> also presented the Grand Prize awards. Joey Yung (容祖兒) was the winner for “TVB’s Choice,” while Taiwan’s Leehom Wang (王力宏) won the “Best Asian Artist” award. Leehom said to the press, “Whether it is A, B, C-pop, now it’s just W-pop (World Pop). It’s a cultural exchange of the entire world!” When it was mentioned that Psy was Leehom’s music academy junior, Leehom said he also wished to collaborate with the Korean rapper.
