The 2013 Metro Radio Hits Music Awards Presentation was held in Hong Kong on December 26, 2013. Bringing together singers from some of Hong Kong’s major record companies, the annual ceremony was broadcast live through five different television and online channels. Beginning at 7 p.m. and ending past midnight, the awards presentation lasted over five hours. A total of 145 awards were handed out.

Eason Chan (陳奕迅) cemented his crown as king of Cantopop by bagging five awards, becoming the biggest winner of the night. Eason’s awards included Song of the Year, Male Singer of the Year, World’s Top Performance Stage, World’s Top Singers, and Students’ Favorite – Male Singer.

“What kind of students?” Eason asked jokingly when he went to receive his Students’ Favorite award. “It’s not kindergarten students, right? If they’re high school students, then that’s great! I will continue to keep a young image and be like Korean singers. I want to be E-Tiger. I will go dye my hair after this!”

Joey Yung (容祖兒), though absent at the awards, took home 4 awards, including Top Hit Songs and Top Duet Songs with “Heaven’s Window” <天窗>, the Hit Album Award, and World’s Top Singers. G.E.M. (鄧紫棋), also absent at the ceremony, took home the Most Viewed Singer and Students’ Favorite – Female Singer.

Andy Hui (許志安) made his first public appearance at the ceremony after being engaged with longtime girlfriend, Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文). Andy won four major awards, including Top Hit Songs with “Lover A” <情人甲>, World’s Top Singers, Most Popular Singers, and Metro Radio’s Favorite Song of the Year. Wedding music began to play when Andy received his World’s Top Singer award, but Andy, his face turning as red as his suit, brushed away the crowd’s begging of hearing him say his wedding vows and stated that he just wanted to perform his song, “Lover A”. The MCs joked that Andy’s song should have been called “Lover S” instead.
