There is an after market product automotive product called Clearmask that is supposed to protect your car from road dust and pebbles, prevent dings and scratches. The cost is several hundred dollars (400-600 from what I've read on the net) to have it applied professionally. Has anyone ever had any experience with this product and what are your opinions of the results? Further, if after market chrome molding had already been applied would that matter at all? Here are videos of the product being applied: Thanks to all who answer.
I have heard about it but I questioned its advantages. I remember seeing one of my coworker's car with film (tape like) peeled off his hood and it was only 2 yrs old .. I am not sure if he did it himself or has it professionally done .. perhaps didn't do a good job but yeah .. it was ugly and he didn't bother removing it cuz I guess he's afraid it will peel off the paint too. I rather save the money and if I need to sell my car or something; just bring it to a body shop and have them buff up the car for sale, a fraction of the price and bam .. all new.
i got this on my car when i got it new like 3 years ago. if u drive a lot on the freeway it would b a wise choice to get it to protect ur paint. there r a couple of packages you can get. i got the one where it covers part of my hood, bumper, part of fender headlights and foglights, mirrors, door handles, gas tank, and top of rear bumper where it meets the trunk. its a wise choice plus it adds value when u decide to sell the car.
The clear bra is nice for smaller cars that are closer to the ground because they're more prone to rock chips. Since you're looking at mid sized SUVs, you shouldn't have to worry about rock chips.
Personally, I live in the city so bumps and scratches from parking, careless assholes, uncaring assholes, and just assholes in general is more of what I'm worried about. Those dings and dents are probably going to be unavoidable. However, Mrs Ralph just heard about this from her sister (who just got herself a VW Tiguan) who was talking about how wonderful this stuff was, she's wondering why we don't get the same for our new car too, and I didn't have any answers, LOL... Yeah, I know; big time eyes roll here; but I'd promised her I'd ask around. And thus far, from this and other groups that I belong to, the chatter's about 50/50. I guess I'll do some more research. I do agree that it would keep your resale value higher, but I'd probably give the car to one of the kids eventually so that's a non issue. Thanks for all the responses.
