i really dont understand how it is the other number. I thought all countries have the same mathematical rules, no? I meant, even the Korean actress or singer agree with my answer.

  6. ^ The mathematical system is the same but people do not realize the mistake they are making if they are getting the former rather than the latter

  16. According to BEDMAS, it's one of those answers.

According to PEMDAS (French version of BEDMAS), it's the other.

Considering that all calculating software are developed in english, like wolfram-alpha, they will be following BEDMAS. So the answer is ....

BEDMAS is the one true way.

    2 / 2 * (2+2) = ?

    brackets: (2+2) = 4

    division: 2 / 2 = 1

    multiplication: 1 * (4) = 4.

mmm after some research it turns out that in BEDMAS, division and multiplication actually have the same level of priority, which is kind of interesting. It really does just come down to whether you use BEDMAS or PEDMAS though.

If you really want to be pedantic, the equation itself is written poorly and is far too ambiguous.

A better way of writing it would be :

    48÷(2(9+3)) = 2

which would force multiplication to be your priority. But as it is written, solving the equation with parenthesis first and going from left to right, 288 is the only logical answer.

Apparently Matlab, Python, C++, C# and just about every programming language will result in the answer being 288.

If you want a really hard mathematical question: How long is a piece of string?
