Being in the second year of a Law student is very hard especially with the work load that we have and the language that is being used especially in England as we rely on case laws. At first year of being at uni, I was lazy, kept bunking of and everything but hardly any of the lecturers were absent and if they were absent, either that lecture is put to another time or they find a replacement.. there is a summary section at the bottom if you can't be arsed to read it all however... absent lecturers :rant: It's been 6-7 weeks since the academic uni year has started and quite a few modules were delayed and cancelled and forced others to change their optional modules. I can't say much about other modules but the one I'm effected the most about is one module that is Law on Trial. I know it can't be helped that lecturers are ill but isn't it the uni's responsibility to find replacement? This module had got delayed for 2 weeks and then other lecturers from other modules have to jump in first to replace the 3 weeks which does not cover the whole idea about the module (i.e. the scope of it, what is the relevance of it, etc.), and the other module leader who was suppose to teach us, only taught us one lecture and now have been sick for the past 3 weeks? WTF like? shouldn't the university hire more people on preparation and for back up to those who are always on sick leave? (later on i'll be ranting about the meeting that went on yesterday about absent lecturers and how it is back on track) About 150 of us taking this compulsory module is losing out and what to do as the lecture slides r too brief and there isn't a specified topic that we can research on. Also one of the coursework we have to do is a journal about our lectures/seminars and how the topic in each affect the Law on Trial and no one has a bloody clue what is expected in it as the other module leader was crap at explaining it! meeting about absent lecturers There was a meeting yesterday which i have to miss have of my Tort lecture for. The Head of Law Department came to discuss about the absent lecturers that have been on sick leave and that the modules are back on schedule till Christmas. I asked whether he can guarantee that after Christmas and he just said they can't as he can't predict when people was gonna be ill. Then other person went why can't the university hire an extra lecturer as they have enough money to hire a temporary one. And the Head said that it's not down to him? OMG like! It's our education, and each of us are paying 3k for nothing!? Also today I should of have Law on Trial seminar and lecture.. seems like it is cancelled once again coz they don't have a replacement! after the meeting, talked to my friend who is a Student Voice Representative (SVR) After the meeting I met up with my friend who couldn't attend the meeting and I told her everything that went on. She said that there was a contingency plan that they would hire a temporary staff when needed coz they DO have the money to do so. And it was down to the Head of Law to do so. She said that he doesn't even know half the things that are going on. I thought that if there was a contingency plan, why didn't he say? If he didn't say anything about that it meant that it's not going to happen. Luckily later on the night my friend emailed everyone in 2nd and 3rd year to explain about things that he didn't bother answer! Useless lecturers I know university is all about doing more work yourself than being spoonfed with information. However if an assignment is due in a closer date like 2 - 3 weeks, should the topic be prioritised to be put forward and we go over the topic in out seminar so that we do know most of the basic knowledge to continue with it? Apparently not with my Property and Tort lecturers. For Tort there was no specified structure being told to us so we all guessed what structure we had to used and the fact we have to near on copy an academic version is already bad enough. Not only that we had no help of what he expected inside it too. As for Property.. MEH! Our assignment was released like 2 weeks ago and it's due on the 1st Dec, which is about a couple of weeks away? We have only just covered the important topics in the lecture on Monday and for the seminars, everything won't be covered till an hour before the due in time. I mean what is the whole point in seminars then when we are not going to have the full knowledge and what the lecturers want from us? And what was worse was that one of my friends had an arguement at another seminar with our lecturer and she said she doesn't give a damn about anything even the breif notes and the fact everyone is to research and not ask her questions! OMG what a bitch hey? Luckily I have a bloke for my seminar and knows his stuff! summary Absent lecturers and lectures being postponed and no replacements We are getting examined however we haven't learnt anything! The meeting about the absent lecturers were a pile of bollocks coz one of the modules they have related to were cancelled once again TODAY! This is a paper-style rant with a wonderful introduction & and simple, crystal clear conclusion featuring animated emoticons at the end. Also, I like how she divided her parts and titled them. Her bulleted summary points are amazingly done. It should be an A, but I deducted some points for the grammar & misspells. Overall, A-!! GOOD JOB!

I understand how you feel. I also hate it when lecturers are absent from lectures. It happened on a few occasions. It just means that we have MORE work to do such as go over what they have missed during that session. It just ain't fair. Why do we have to suffer if lecturers aren't doing there job properly :(
because there's nothing else we can do as most of our tuition fee is paid by the student loan company atm lol, they don't give a crap about us so long as they get paid. well i'm not saying all but some jsut don't care tbh... what ticks me off is that the Head of Department says he is doing something about it when it clearly shows he doesn't know anything about it when my friend has stronly said to me that half the time he hasn;t a clue what goes on in the Student Voice Representative meetings as for more work part, that is what im suffering for.. today i just give up but that's coz my attention span is not fit enough as i'm feeling like death atm which is not nice
