Ada Choi (蔡少芬) has turned down yet another opportunity to star in a TVB drama. Ada’s last TVB drama was the 2012 period drama Beauty at War <金枝慾孽貳>, the sequel to the highly popular Qing dynasty palace series War and Beauty <金枝慾孽>.

Last year, it was announced that Ada would join the cast of TVB drama Ghost of Relativity <鬼同你OT>, starring alongside Moses Chan (陳豪). Ada even turned down the opportunity to star as the female lead in the Mainland Chinese drama The Legend of Miyue <羋月傳> in order to film the TVB series.

However, upon realizing the series would involve supernatural topics, Ada rejected the role, citing conflict with her Christian religion.

At the TVB Sales Presentation held in November 2014, TVB confirmed that Ada will star in Eunuchs Leave the Palace <公公出宮> opposite Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) and David Chiang (姜大偉). Ada had also expressed her excitement to work with Wayne for the first time. However, TVB’s delay in starting production interfered with Ada’s schedule, and she ultimately turned down the TVB drama due to scheduling conflicts. It has been announced that Nancy Wu (胡定欣) will replace Ada Choi’s as the new female lead in the series.

Originally scheduled to begin production in late December, TVB had to postpone Eunuchs Leave the Palace’s production to mid-February 2015 due to the unprecedented issues of TVB’s time-traveling series Captain of Destiny <張保仔>, which required a longer post-production slot due to its CGI elements.

    Ada Regrets Missed Opportunity

Having to turn down two TVB series in a row, Ada said she felt that it was a pity. Ada expressed, “I was prepared [to star in Eunuchs Leaving the Palace]. However, they delayed the production to more than a month later, and that really interfered with my schedule. My manager and I tried to come up with a suitable arrangement, but we couldn’t do it, so that’s why I had to reject the series. I never worked with Wayne before. It’s a big pity.”

Because of TVB, Ada had to turn down The Legend of Miyue and two other mainland Chinese dramas. Commenting that Ada must have lost millions of dollars, she said, “That much? Can’t really put it that way. As long as I don’t accept the job, I’m not really earning anything. I didn’t lose anything. I know what I want.” Ada stressed that she is still possesses good relations with TVB and is waiting for the opportunity to work with the station again in the future.

Raymond Wong Also Backs Out of Eunuchs Leave the Palace

Ada was not the only artiste who turned down Eunuchs Leaving the Palace. According to producer Marco Law (羅永賢), Raymond Wong (黃浩然) also rejected the series due to scheduling conflicts.

Marco Law said, “Originally, the drama was called The Five Eunuchs <太監五虎>. It was supposed to feature the five leads in The Confidant <大太監>, which included Raymond Wong. However, Raymond has to film a new drama in April, so we had to let him go.”
