so i current have installed a Serial ATA/100 harddrive, i'm gonna add one as a slave...i was wondering if i could use any type of harddrive or do i have to add one that is an Serial ATA/100.....the ones i'm looking to get is Serial ATA/300 or Ultra DMA/100.... so would they work?
if your current HDD is a SATA one, then you should have no problems putting another SATA one in. Just make sure you have a free SATA port on your motherboard (you should have plenty) also you should make sure you comp has a correct and spare hdd power cable, most SATA hdds have the new type of connector for the power which are thinner than the old ones, failing that you can just get a converter and buy the correct cable
^haha.... anyways unfortunately i found out mine only supports ATA/100 interface which is obsolete right and i had to buy that version... but thanks dude.
if ur worried, then just get an external hard drive. they are fairly cheap these days anyway. it also allows u to use ur files on other comps too.
based on the hd's they put in there and in general as i've seen way to many of those go bad over time as compared to an internal hd. also the constant powering up as opposed to an always on internal inside a pc as with most users rarely turning off their pcs.
