Saturday April 28, 2007 Hong Kong Ah Sa kneels to pay respect to teacher, gains the 10 ‘prohibitions’ of acting Ah Sa kneels on the floor to serve tea, formally becomes Jim Sui Man’s disciple. Ah Sa and Jim Sui Man first collaborated when filming the movie KING OF PLAYS. Jim Sir is without doubt an excellent actor, and it is no wonder that Ah Sa wanted to become his pupil. Yesterday they held a formal ceremony where Jim Sir formally accepted Ah Sa as his disciple. He gave her 10 rings to remind Ah Sa to follow the 10 ‘prohibitions’ of acting. Yesterday at the ceremony, Ah Sa knelt on the floor seriously and served tea to her teacher. She said to Jim Sir, “Teacher, please have tea.” Jim Sir said honestly that he had waited very long for this day. Ah Sa gave her teacher a crown; she smiled and said it was worth as much as a city. In return Jim Sir gave her 10 rings, and said, “Each ring has its own significance, these 10 rings represent the 10 ‘prohibitions’ of acting. This includes being boastful, losing control, artificiality, being false, being shallow, being stiff, arrogant, to be indulgent, to exaggerate and awareness.” Jim Sir then used the line ‘I love you’ to demonstrate the 10 ‘prohibitions’, making Ah Sa laugh. Jim Sir said that although Ah Sa had not started to learn the art of acting from him, he thought that her acting had already improved and even said that Ah Sa would win an award at the next Golden Bell Awards. When asked which of the ‘forbidden’ rules she had already broken, Ah Sa said, “I think I already broke all of them. The most serious one would be losing control because I cannot control my laughter and whenever I have a kissing scene, I will always burst out laughing. In Dairy, there was a scene where I had to force Shawn Yue to eat. When I returned to the hotel after finishing that scene, my emotions were still unsettled.” As to whether there was any pressure working with Jim Sir, she said, “I am very happy to be able to work with him. I have filmed nearly 30 movies already and I can’t continue like this; I have to accept scripts carefully. But when I knew that Jim Sir was participating in this movie as well, I immediately agreed.” Ah Sa also expressed that she has all along used her gut feelings to act, and no one had ever taught her any acting techniques. She only realized, after working with Jim Sir, that he not only used his facial expressions but also his voice and body to act. In this movie, Ah Sa acts as a porn star and she said that it was challenging to act out this role.
