On April 23rd, Maeda Atsuko announced at AKB48’s handshake event in Nagoya Dome that she would have her solo debut on June 22nd. The debut theme song is titled “Flower” and will be used as a background theme song in Maeda’s new movie, “MoshiDORA”. 21,000 fans in the stadium gave her their blessings with loud cheers. Maeda smiled, “I also just heard I would be having a solo debut recently, so I wasn’t really able to prepare mentally, but I’m really happy”.

AKB48 has been around for 5 years since their indie debut of “Sakura no Hanabiratachi” in February 2006. Their new song “Everyday, Kachuusha” will be their 21st single and will be performed by the senbatsu (selected) members. In June, “AKB’s face” will have her first lead role in a movie and will have her much-awaited solo debut.

When the announcement was shown on the screen, the fans in Nagoya Dome erupted with cheers and the other AKB members also sent their blessings with a smile. The theme song for the movie “MoshiDORA” will be AKB48’s new song “Everyday, Kachuusha”, and Maeda’s debut song is completely different, asvit’s a medium number. Maeda introduced it, “The lyrics are really fantastic and it’s kind of like a support song”.

The only other member who has had an official solo debut is Itano Tomomi (19); a first generation AKB48 member like Maeda. “Flower” will be released through King Records, just like AKB48 and Itano’s releases.
