When Alex Fong (方中信) and Hoyan Mak (莫可欣) were still dating, they came to an agreement that they would not have kids. In late 2007, the former Miss Hong Kong winner surprised Alex with a message that she was three months pregnant. “It took me two weeks to take in the information,” Alex said. Alex and Hoyan registered for marriage two days before their daughter, Fu Ka Ching (符迦晴), was born on June 9, 2008. The 50-year-old actor told the press at the time that one was enough and he was not planning to have another baby anymore. “One is enough! I have to carry that package with me for the next twenty or more years. I can’t buy cars, watches, or yachts anymore. I can’t be that charismatic, prodigal son anymore either. Now, I have to be a caretaker.” The carefree Alex did not seem to be very paternal at first, but after becoming a father, Alex settled down and spent most of his private time with his family. He was seen taking his daughter to school, attending parent-teacher conferences, and often took time off from work to go on vacation with his daughter. Agreement Not Reached Although Alex is satisfied with just one child, Hoyan, on the other hand, wants more. Sudden Weekly reported that Hoyan is actually interested in having another baby, but she could not come up to a final agreement with Alex. On March 16, Alex attended Stefan Wong’s (黃長興) wedding as his groomsman, leaving Hoyan to pick up Ka Ching herself from a horseback riding school in Sheung Shui. A Sudden Weekly reporter overheard Hoyan’s conversation with other parents at the school, saying, “I really do want to go for a son. In fact, I wouldn’t mind having two more, but I don’t know if that will happen.” Sudden Weekly believed that Hoyan’s reasons for having another child is because she felt insecure around her husband. Before giving birth to Ka Ching, Alex regularly had rumors with his female costars. Although his romantic rumors have dwindled in recent years, Alex’s recent rumor with mainland Chinese actress, Kong Wei (孔维), reportedly frightened Hoyan. In the next six months, Alex will shoot for two mainland Chinese dramas back-to-back. As a result, the A Great Way to Care 2 <仁心解碼 II> star does not have plans to renew his TVB contract anytime soon. Alex’s decision to stay in mainland China allegedly caused great worry for Hoyan, which prompted her decision to have another baby in order to tie Alex back to Hong Kong. A source close to the pair said, “Alex earns a lot more in the mainland, but Hoyan rather wants Alex to stay with TVB. She doesn’t mind the lower pay. She’ll just be thriftier on their spending.” Alex and Hoyan could not come up with an agreement and have recently been giving each other the cold shoulder. On March 20, Alex accepted a phone interview from to Sudden Weekly. “I don’t have the qualifications to shoot for another [baby],” Alex said with a sigh. “One is already enough. Definitely do not want another. It will be too much to handle.” When Alex found out that Hoyan had mentioned to her friends that she desired to have a son, Alex sounded surprised. “What! She told you guys? Really? It’s enough! One is enough!
