Alex To's mother died on New Year's Day Hong Kong singer Alex To's mother, Zhang Lu, passed away on the first day of Chinese New Year from organ failure. She was 76 years old. [SIZE=-2][/SIZE] One of the most popular singers in Hong Kong and Shanghai, Zhang had many classic hits and was also known as the singing queen of China. Zhang was recommended by her neighbors to sing on radio station when she was just 14 years old. Subsequently, she performed on musicals and up-class Shanghai nightclubs. In 1952, she moved to Hong Kong where her career peaked. She married Spanish singer, Ollie Delfino, who was with a Hong Kong band, in 1957 and have two sons, Orlando To and Alex To. The latter inherited her good vocals and made his name in the pop music industry. Zhang's charm led to lasting popularity among listeners; just last month, it was reported that she had been receiving harassment phone calls which were believed to have originated from her fanatic die-hard fans.
