I want to buy a tablet laptop and found this one that is refurbished(hp tx1000z) and am wondering if it is suicidal to buy a refurbished laptop. Like will it stop working or have some other problems like a month or something later? Has any one of you had any experience with a refurbished laptop? Or are all of you here loaded and only buy brand new stuff -innocent2 haha
DONT DO IT!! holy crap i cant stress not buying refurbished HP products enough. i have had two refurbished HP computers and i have had to take both back because they ran slow/drives werent working properly/crashed randomly. i actually had an HP tablet (new) and i returned that because it broke, i think the internal components over heated, it ran seriously hot. overall my experience with HP has been fairly bad hahahaha. the features of the tablet are fun, and you'd think they'd be useful for note taking and stuff in classes, but overall u can do the same thing with pen and paper for 1000 + dollars cheaper. dont bother with buying refurbished products, they will just cause u more headaches in the end.
fearless_fx, that's some bad experience there ^^ I'm using a hp dv1040us right now, it has been serving me for 2 months short of three years without any problems. I have wanted to buy a tablet so I can draw/paint on the computer for a while now, so I just thought that buying a tablet laptop would be a good choice since I want to give the one I'm using to my little sister. I wanted the fujitsu t4220 because people said they have good reputation for their tablet laptop, but those go beyond my budget even the refurbished ones. I also looked at gateway's c-140x(bigger screen) but I haven't heard too much good things about gateway. Think I should give them a try? They have on and off discounts for this model on their site. Knoctur_nal, yea, I'm looking into buying warranty from squaretrade if I end up buying one through ebay. Or extend the warranty if from the manufacturer. Oh, yeah, thanks to both for replying
doooddd ... 1. one of my coworkers swears by it...he thinks it has been retested etc etc so it is better... 2. when u do this, u have to buy the extended warranty...depending on the model...the refubished one with the extended waranty is about the same cost...the refubish one usually has 90 day waranty...so better do the math on this one...when u get it, make sure you try all the connector ports...sometime it becomes loose after a few months...right around when the warranty runs out...also if you can find out what was the defect in the first place then you have a better selection...if it is a problem with the motherboad...dont take it...I use to fix them...and there are always problems later on... 3. www.futureshop.ca, www.tigerdirect.ca, www.bestbuy.ca sells them... 4. u have to figure out how much u are really saving... 5. with the extended warranty. u also have to find out if it is one of those that covers "accident" events...as well as equivalent replacement because of obsolence...e,g. if three years later, your laptop broke and they don;t make it anymore, what do u get...etc. etc good luck
refurbished products aren't that bad. 1) majority of refurbs are just returned products with absolutely no defects due to a change in purchasing decision. 2) companies check the refurbed products unlike new products. 3) save $$$
I found good and bad news the other night. There's this 30% off coupon for it, but you can't stack it with the 150 off they have on their site but that's not the bad news tho. This model have a passive digitizer for the touch screen which pretty much defeat my purpose(a good tablet for drawing should have an active digitizer). So I guess I'll go for the gateway or something. adrianc, I think I'll call up the sale rep at gateway to bother them with the questions hehe aznxchurro, they don't check new products, that's comforting to know haha zin, I don't believe you 'cause crazy people don't usually admit that they're crazy? Does Gateway have good built quality? But I guess luck is also somewhat a factor with electronics.
