When the director Peter Chan was interviewed by an American magazine, "The Hollywood Reporter", he indicated the movie is based on the tussle among the farmers. Before the shooting of the movie he had read books on the civil war in Afghanistan. Smiling he said that the look of Andy as a bandit resembles that of Osama Bin Laden, with a moustache.
