Andy Lau’s (劉德華) impressive work ethic and powerful dedication to his craft has led him to once carry the nickname “Ngau Wah” or “Bull Wah”—meaning that he works as hard as a bull. When he announced the birth of his first and only daughter Hanna in 2012, many half-expected the Hong Kong actor and singer to slow down his work output so he could spend more time with his family. But the 54-year-old remains as hardworking as ever, successfully balancing both career and family. He recently finished shooting the action-packed Hong Kong Lunar New Year film, From Vegas to Macau III <賭城風雲III> with Chow Yun Fat (周潤發), and Andy isn’t planning to take a break from acting anytime soon. “Us with Fat Gor, we would always wonder why foreigners could act until they’re 60 or 80 [years old], but while we have to retire? We would always get questions asking us why we haven’t retired yet, but foreigners never encounter these questions in interviews,” said Andy. The “heavenly king” has been in the industry since the early 80’s, and his success is heard across Asia. When Andy announced his marriage to Carol Chu (朱麗倩) and the birth of his daughter Hanna, many people thought Andy would semi-retire from the industry. But Andy said he has found the perfect balance between work and family, and he will continue to work as hard as he can. “I used to have one family, but now I have two. I’ve never received complaints before. I’ve balanced both [family and work] very well. I think what’s most important is that they know what my heart thinks; time is not the problem. As long as you leave your heart with them, one hundred percent of it, then that’s all that matters.” Creds: QQ
