Tuesday January 16, 2007 Hong Kong Andy Lau Talks About the Current State of the HK Music Industry Despite being busy with filming, Andy Lau took time off to support Hong Kong’s music industry by attending a music award ceremony. Regarding the current state of the music industry, Andy believes that record companies are too reliant on doing more jobs to get awards. He also believes that HK singer are only concentrating on the native market and are not willing to have a go at foreign markets. Andy then sighed when talking about the phrase ‘造馬’ (cheating) being used to describe award winning singers. During his interview on radio station 903, Andy talked about his views on the current Hong Kong music industry. He disclosed that in the past, people would use the phrase ‘實至名歸’ (deserving) to describe award winning singers but now people would usually say the award winning singers have ‘造馬’ (cheated). Andy has also been accused of cheating to win ‘Asia’s Favourite Male Singer Award’ by netizens. Andy commented, “Everyone says ‘cheating’ but Eason Chan and Leo Ku have not cared about these remarks. But I am quite angered. If someone said that I did not deserve the ‘Gold Music Award’ I would be hurt.” Regarding a large amount of singers missing at TVB’s ‘JSG Music Award Ceremony’, Andy believes that singers must think about attending using their conscience. He said, “No one is a saint. I would think, if I didn’t go and I won an award that would be embarrassing.” Andy also pointed out that some singers care about awards too much and that some companies are even concentrating on getting their artists to do more jobs just to get awards. If this continues, Andy believes that award ceremonies would turn into a business. Andy then praised Miriam for sitting the whole night even though she did not win an award. Kelly Chen, earlier, expressed her unhappiness regarding the results of ‘JSG’s music award ceremony’ and that she is part of the ‘weak group’. Andy described Kelly as truthful so such a comment is not unusual. Andy commented, “Kelly is working on the mainland market. I am the same, I will not dare fight for ‘Hong Kong’s Favourite Male Singer Award’. Many singer are only working on the Hong Kong market, they don’t want to walk out. (Do you feel that award ceremonies bring bitterness?) There will always be someone unhappy.” credits: sina, asianfanatics.
Yeah, even though I haven't visited HK; the image projected by record companies from my pov is that they only care about money. the sheer number and frequency of awards given to singers are also ridiculous. And also how many award ceremonies and awards can there be for a population of 7million plus in HK?(not a question) Come on TVB music awards- shouldn't they just focus on dramas and tv shows?
sigh, but its true though... i dun think anyone would disagree when ppl say the awards are not like they used to be... too much politics going on... there's too many awards and it's too political who should get one...
the hk music industry is def down int he dumps. most of the mainstream artists only want to make money and don't care about the quality of their music. there are only a few stars that actually put quality over money. i think GL and EEG are two big companies that really only care about money and dont value quality as much.
Yeah also the quality of these award shows aren't what they used to be either they used to be more fun and enjoyable
