A sneak peek of director Ang Lee’s (李安) brand new 3D movie, Life of Pi <少年Pi的奇幻漂流>, was viewed at Las Vegas’ CinemaCom a week ago. The 10-minute footage was critically praised as being a exquisite and inspiring effort, delivering early hype that Life of Pi will certainly be a formidable contender in next year’s Oscar Awards! Ang Lee’s Life of Pi took it's origin from the award-winning novel by Yann Martel. Published in 2001, the novel has sold more than 7 million copies globally. Life of Pi is a story of a boy named “Pi” whose family members drowned in a shipwreck. Drifting in a lifeboat in the Indian Ocean for 227 days with a wild Bengal tiger, Pi was battling to survive while looking for the meaning of life and spirituality. It took Ang Lee over three years to take Life of Pi to the big screen. Life of Pi is Ang Lee’s first 3D film project, he said that there were numerous technical challenges that he experienced, that he had to learned how to overcome throughout the production of the movie. The wild animals, such as the Bengal tiger, in the film was computer-generated but appeared extremely realistic. Mr. Lee mentioned that the film adaptation of Life of Pi would have been impossible to produce five years ago, devoid of the existing developments in CGI technology. With regards to the premature praise for Life of Pi, including early Oscar buzz, Ang Lee remained humble. He explained, “This still is an unfinished movie! Hold back until you've seen the finished product, you might be more emotionally moved!” While Ang Lee anticipated that Life of Pi will bring interesting surprises to viewers, he hoped that the public will concentrate on the film’s content and not speculate on Oscar awards.. Life of Pi will be released worldwide on December 21, 2012. Creds: QQ/Sina
