To Angela Zhang, 2008 is a year that she will never forget. Besides having to go to Canada to seek medical treatment for her heart condition, afterwards, there were shocking rumours of her and her mother becoming enemies due to money, and that she kicked her mum out of her house. After experiencing over a year of both physical and psychological torment, earlier Angela revealed for the first time about the truth behind the mother-and-daughter relationship change: “I never kicked her out of the house! I do not dare say whether I am filial or not, but at least I have tried my best to fulfill a daughter’s responsibility.” After saying this, she immediately collapsed into tears, and she used ‘fate is done, cannot force’ to describe their current situation. Towards the outside world having the idea of her not being filial, Angela said: “I am a very responsible person, and I feel hurt being misunderstood. I’ve always placed the most importance on family, what part am I not filial? I’ve already tried my best to fulfill a daughter’s responsibility." And regarding the rumours of kicking her mother out of her house, Angela replied indignantly: “I never kicked her out! This is the truth. After I came back, (indicating last year in February when she returned to Taiwan from Vancouver), I was really shocked. She had already moved out, and didn’t tell me beforehand.” Angela expressed that ever since her father moved to Canada due to his heart problem, being the oldest at 15, she had to take up the responsibility of looking after the whole family. She did everything from washing the car to delivering lunchboxes. When she was 18, her musical talent was discovered by Lin Long Xuan, but during the 2-3 years after that, she had almost no income at all, so she had to work at a clothing store to earn living expenses. However, what she didn’t think of was that after her career became a success, her relationship with her mother would change. So how did it end up this way; mother and daughter going their separate ways? Angela said: “I’ve always been the head of the household. I’m responsible for earning money, and I would give all my money to the person I trusted the most (indicating her mother) to take care of, the money would directly go into her account, I never questioned anything.” It’s been 8 years since Angela first debuted in 2001, and she is about to release her 6th album. She’s always been the queen of advertisements, and the amount of money she has earned should be very impressive. Angela doesn’t wish to talk about money, but she revealed that after she had her mother began living apart, she was entitled to her own bank account for the first time. Now, she personally takes care of her own money, and although she refused to talk about what really happened, she hinted that the relationship change was related to ‘money’.
