The producer of the TV drama recently announced that Anita Mui would be played by Hong Kong ATV actress Alice Chan, instead of contest winner Jiao Xuan from the mainland’s Shandong Province, the Web site Sina.com reported. Chan, a 1996 Miss Asia, starred in Hong Kong director Wong Jing’s 2005 drama "A Dream Named Desire: Legend 2” in a role said to be inspired by Anita Mui. Chan achieved fame in “My Date With a Vampire.” The production will focus on Mui’s life in the bright lights of Hong Kong show business and her rumored love affairs with celebrities. The producer also publicized Chan’s photos as Mui on and off the stage, with some in a wedding gown. The production has obtained permission from Mui’s mother and older brother.
