possibly... but still theres a long way to go.. i have to do my year 12 exams.. plus a umat test.. before i can even get considered for interviews.. and the demand here for med is just so high its ridiculous lol...
The med school process is really not that difficult. My highest recommendation for you is to do your homework thoroughly. You gonna want to attend a school where you feel comfortable staying and studying for the next four years. Don't just apply and go where ever you're accepted because you'll end up suffering alone. You might not even get accept to a school too if you don't know shit about it during the interview. You gotta show enthusiasm by asking quality questions as well as what you know about the school and how attending the school will help you with your future studies/specialty. Unfortunately, I dropped out of med because I realize it's not for me after I started school. It's not about the challenge, just can't picture myself working in a hospital setting all the time. Oh yeah .. if you're into research, then make sure to pursue a PhD instead. I really dislike those who went to med school yet ended up doing research. Med doc should focus on clinical practice. Don't take a spot of those who want to practice medicine.
^ Unfortunatly dropping out doesn't fill up the spot either (not here, unless it's really early). We have a "overflow" of acceptances here each year and they expect a lot of us to stop, so it also takes a spot short term. I'm gonna start with clinic and it's likely that I'm combining it with research someday. They know the demand for doctors and adjust accordingly each year. In the end it doesn't matter whatever we decide to do with our future. -sweat Good luck, hkm91450!
That's fantastic you're doing this for yourself and that your parents aren't pressuring you. hang in there. april will be here before you know it. I had started off thinking I wanted to do med school, but ended up doing grad. I did some research for a like 8 years and now I decided I wanted to do law (LOL). So, I agree with negiqboyz, figure out what about medicine you really like, so you know you're doing the right thing. I don't know about Canada, but in the US, the price tag between med and grad school is huge. so, right now, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm waiting for them to tell me if they want me. waiting is the worse. I feel your pain. good luck to you!
I wish i can go back in time and become a doctor myself, but its too late. GL.... I shouldve studied harder.
