I'm a first year architect student , and i've just been given my second architecture project (WHICH IS REALLY CONFUSING) we have to design a product (with all that design process of research, ideas..etc) of a piece of clothing. (not just hats, shoes or a bad etc) .. like a dress or something.. yeh this is architecture xD the clothing needs to be worn by me, and should be adaptable to surviving in a city!!! (not like a rainforest or something) and the objective bullets are.. 1, have edible produce growing within it, from it and/or out of it 2, should not and can not JUST be a hat, a bad, a shoe, or a scard 3, will be a garment which allows free movement for the wearer 4, must have waterproof qualities to it so that the wearer (me) does not get drenched during irrigation unless this is intentional. 5, demonstrate a thorough consideration and then use of your proposed materials 6, must be beautifully crafted. 7, must be worn and exhibited by you during the fashion show exhibition and "the crit" which is a weekly criticism from your studio group and tutor. i have been given 2 weeks... NOW... where do i start? someone PLEASE HELP ME =_=" any suggestions or help on what type of materials or living organisms would be really appreciated.... 2 weeks is sooo short to do this all... (we have to do portfolio board works on walls to present as well as show research and lots of sketchbook work, and also making the product. and consider thoughts about social, cultural, political, personal boundaries, and the garment's capacity/container of space etc....)
-huh?a product of a piece of clothing.........have edible produce growing? like strawberries? flowers? grass? ..o__O'' does ur professor has some sort of examples to show ya all? definitely confusing. i was assigned to create a piece of hand-made wearable artwork, kinda as confusing as urs, whats wrong w/ teachers >< maybe u can start of w/ t-shirts? can u do a t-shirt? i rmb one of my classmates made a t-shirt for the art thing i mentioned above, she sewed two t-shirts together, and add roses from in the middle, from top to the bottom right corner, the meaning is inner beauty. (tho it doesnt qualify as an artwork voted by us, it can be an idea for you). you can always get waterproof fabrics in the local area & online. the first thing you should do now is to pick ur fabric & that living organism thing, otherwise its hard to fit into a proper design.
yeh that's true, with the picking organism and fabric lol yeh i was thinking about..stitching two ponchos together or something... transparent ones?? with cotton wool and growing cress inside?? but more added thing to the poncho and make it look more organic like.. by shaping it in a certain way... i asked the tutor today whether he could show us examples? but he said he's not gonna show us any. it's all self directed study and he's not gonna help us on this much i don't think!!! ... (someone best not be from the MSA here and nab my idea!!)
^i have this image of ur thing in my head now lol, kinda, looks quite organically pretty actually. yeah def add some twists, gl~ post a pic back when ure done
woahhhhh some architecture that is.... i jst finished my first year of architecture studies and i have to say i have to yet come across a project that deals with fashion ahahhaha since its a old thread and its the first time ive been here since like years... any photos of the finished product? would love to see it for some inspirations myself.
is the assignment more into the natural/raw materials? coz from the first objective u need something edible ><... but i would say a dress having grape vines around as the belt and the shoulder lace thing. the dress's primary material could be done with palm leaves (kinda like the islander ones) decorated by some tropical fruits =] this totally sounds like a piece of shit of a clothing but in my mind it looked okay =D
