Recently my 2 classmates and I stumbled onto an arcade we always overlooked when going to Chinatown from Brooklyn. We played there last week and played there this week, my 2 classmate's parents were like "The arcade has tons of gangsters and bad people" when all it is, is some groups of friends chilling, playing pool, playing internet cafe, some pingpong and some arcade machines. Is it me or do their parents watch too much TV, because HK shows that show scenes in an arcade usually shows teenagers smoking and doing such things in an arcade. Especially if there are pool tables in it.
Duno, that is knda lke the same idea in which me parents thought that by bringin in a friend i knew from school, hu knew me sis, they thought they were gona do somethin dodgy 2gether.. Oh well, bet the parents havent even bin inside em, n prolly the msg gets passed on 2 them through their friends or some other source
sounds like chinatown fair...... which is the only arcade anyways hahaha but then its of course not the best place to hang out but then if you really wanna play games haha
Don't think they're dumb, but somehow mislead in their view on game arcades in general. Yes, I do think and agree the game arcades in HK are full with gangsters and practices that can't bear the daylight because whenever I walk past such a venue I always see the gangster types/school dropouts sweating a lot even when they don't have reasons to use curse words. And whenever I'm in HK there's always every so often news about how the police have arrested visitors of game arcades with possesion of drugs and other crime related things. Dunno about the rest of the world, probably in a less negative perspective than the HK ones methinks.
It's a common misconception by people that arcade is filled with bad people (which si actually sometimes true).
parents mind = games = waste of time + you are hanging with other kids who are wasting time = they must be bad = u are wasting time + hanging around with bad kids
haha. i suppose they just say that because that's unfamiliar ground. so what they don't know they want their kids to stay away from.
some times they are TOO careful, which is in itself can be a very bad thing, just like letting them go have fun at parties and stuff....
The thing is....there are arcades where bad people go I guess... and same with a lot of different places (azn parties/clubs)... But as long as their kid knows whats right and whats not I dont think anything bad can happen if he'd go there... If hes a weak person he can become a bad person through skool too (if he hangs out with the "bad guys")...
they're just being careful. like with parties i'm not allowed to go... but once they hear some1 else is goin...ie someelse and they know the parents. then i'm allowed to go... :S it's like they don't trust me... lol
When i was 13 I have been to an arcade where there was this gang of youths hanging around the corner looking. I knew they were bad when they kept staring at me and my brother. When we left they followed us and tried to steal our leftover money there was like 6 of them and 2 of us. Luckily we manage to convince them that we spent it.
