- Parents want you back home before 10pm - Believe that we should hang around with people that they feel are "smart" - No other piercing other than "normal places" i.e only ear. - No dieing your hair - Date a guy after your 18 (For Girls) - Sex after marriage - Date chinese guys/girls only You get the list... lol So anyone parents old-fashioned and what do you think? but i understand though that they are protective and old fashion because they experinced some of the worst times in the world and keep want to keep thier children safe. just remember when your parents are annoying you that ITS ALL BECAUSE OF LOVE even though its hard to see and realise it at the time
Hmm, I think my parents are only partly traditional in that respect; dying the hair purple wasn't something they would approve (but I don't think they could have stopped me if I really wanted to) as they're afraid I would be associated with gangsters because apparently only the gangsters in HK/Asia do dye their hair in a frivolous colour. They do know it's a different story in Europe but they're just afraid of what other Chinese might think of me. Same for the piercings, but I never wanted any except for the earrings so no probs with that. Oh, and because I refused to go out when I was a teenager (I wanted to save money and I hated dancings) they sometimes tried to kick me out of the house and allowed me to stay till 2/3am at school parties. Think they were worried about me because they kept hearing stories from other Chinese parents how their kids misbehave by buying expensive clothes, going out every weekend, drinking/smoking, being rebelistic etc. and they probably thought I was an abnormal teenager for lacking all these kind of characterestics! -lol (did they know I would catch my teenage years somewhat later on in the form of liking rock music and gigs haha)
^are you part of a band or something? -huh for the most part, i agree with most of the stuff you have on that list whether or not my parents enforce it or not. but anyhow, i think my parents are pretty lenient in terms of being "traditional"
^ lol, why keep people thinking I'm in a band! I'm a band stalker If Chinese parents living outside HK/Asia are wise enough, they won't raise their kids too strict in the traditional way, they'll have to find a compromise if they don't want to mess up their own kids.
My parents are not that traditional/old-fashioned. But they encourage me to hang out with smart people.
My parents are NOT old fashioned at all...Might be because I have older brother and sister.... I could go clubbing when I was 15 until whenever I like... Dated someone who was non asian and my parents knew about it Could stay over at friends place whenever I like as long as I gave them a call Choose whatever school subject I like (some asian parents insist that their kids do something with business) Dyed my hair for the first time when I was 17 My ex bf could stay at our place when I was 18 (because he lived far away) It's a bit risky and some of u guys might find this weird... but Im fine... I don't smoke, never used any kind of drugs, I am not slutty and I only drink occasionally... im doing much better than some girls who have very strict parents... I guess I just have 2 good examples to follow..my older brother and sister... hehehe
at one point my parents were very old fashioned, but since living the u.s. for over 20 years, they have adapted to this life style with an open mind!

My parents are average...they arent as "TYPICAL ASIANS" as some of my aunties and uncles...but i guess im pretty old fashioned as well...i like it like that...like i wouldnt wanna date or go steady at my age...i would wait....they even encourage me to have guy frds...which i do...but they often tease me about guyz >.< ....my parents would want me to called them if im gonna be late....but then...im a good gurl so i wunt be home that late... as for studies? im really dumb...they dunt care...as long as i do my best..they say -.- i once had a 50% in a math exam... and they got kinda disapointed...and i was very down...so they bought icecream for me...lol...i love my parents...lol... now..i wish i had a big brother...-lol
