Seeing how some people view Linda as an eyesore and badmouthing her all the time, this angers me. Her acting and singing has improved and I agree that she still has lots to learn. I’ve seen how some others has exaggerated that Linda uses underhand means and depending on relations in order to climb to fame and this is ridiculous and impossible. Linda’s family are all in Canada and her parents migrated over for more than 30 years. She has never been to Hong Kong before she joined MCI pageant. Not coming from a rich family, her parents migrated over to Canada with little money and her toys were all second hand. Her parents took up 3, 4 jobs a day to make ends meet and they have never complained, so long as the whole family were together they feel contented. Though Linda will be envious of her classmate new stationeries and being able to go out to play, but her parents doted on her and her siblings and she feels that she doesn’t lose to those kids. At the age of 15, Linda went to work as a cashier to pay for her school fees. It’s even impossible that she uses underhand means to be popular. Linda mentions she’s worried that upon receiving most improved award, she will be scolded by others as she thinks that it’s not the right time to earn it and her acting isn’t very good as yet. Linda also mentions that after filming VOH2, she received lots of jobs but she’s not ready yet. “It’s often said that there are a lot of fights in the TV industry and today I can be good friends with Shirley and Leanne. Watching myself picking up fast and looking at others waiting for a chance, sometimes I wouldn’t dare to complain.” Without a doubt, Linda is a very lucky person. Her career in the entertainment world has been very smooth. She entered TVB after winning 2004 MCI. Being in the industry for 4 years she has filmed more than 10 dramas and 3 movies. Being in the industry for a year she receives lead roles and had a part in major productions such as HOG and Gems of Life. Her 1st participation in a movie earned her a nomination as best newcomer in HK film awards. And her 1st debut album obtained gold selling record. Linda expresses that she thinks she is lucky as she is able to do her favourite things. Being lucky doesn’t mean that she did not put in any effort, at the age of 19 she left her family for Hong Kong, a place that she has never step foot before to learn how to get accustomed to her life in Hong Kong and independence. For 3 years, she did not return home and films every day. When she arrived in Hong Kong, her Chinese was poor and she doesn’t know how to read even such a simple word ‘Apple’. Whenever she receives a script, she has to check the dictionary and writes down the pinyin, giving out twice the effort than other people and only has a few hours of sleep. Reporter: From the previous interview, you said that you can’t really read Chinese. How is it now? Linda: I can read 98% of it and know how to write a few words. Reporter: 98%? That’s awesome! It has only been 2 years, how did you manage to improve so rapidly? Linda: Can’t be helped, due to working environment, I have to film every day. I guess I don’t like to reply on people, slowly forcing myself to learn. I don’t want to rely on others and slow down the learning process so I have to pick up Chinese fast. Reporter: In the process of learning, there must be someone to teach. Who taught you? Your colleagues? Linda: At first, I will rely on the dictionary and also write the word largely on a piece of paper and show it to my Daddy via the web cam and he will tell me what word it is. From this process, I slowly remember the word. This is because when I write the huge word, it looks like as if I’m drawing and when I showed it to him, he will read it once and I will repeat it for a few times and this helps to enhance my memory. Reporter: So Daddy teachers you how to read the script every night when he’s in Vancouver. Linda: Yes, and also I have to film and read Chinese every day thus I learnt very fast. Reporter: I’m aware that when you first came to Hong Kong, your dad applied for a month’s leave to help you with translating of the script. Linda: Yup, translate the script and also take a look at the environment of where I work and my place and make sure that everything is all settled before he leaves. Reporter: Your family really takes good care of you. I would like to praise you! From being unable to read Chinese to being able to read about 98%! Fiona Sit, you really got to learn from Linda Chung. Linda was unhappy for the first 3 years when she first joined the industry and she misses her family. She said she cried a lot and whenever she receives her parent’s postcard that writes BE HAPPY and that could make her tear a lot. At that time whenever she is unhappy with some things, she won’t dare to tell her parents for fear of making them worried and always report good news and not negative. This year, Linda accepted an interview from Anna Yau (HKRadio2 DJ and TVB host). During the interview, Anna Yau mentions that 2 years ago, she had a misunderstanding with Linda and from then on she will avoid Linda whenever she could. 2 years ago, she invited Charles Szeto, Matthew Ko and Linda up on her live radio show and during the show Linda left the show irresponsibly. Until this year, Linda took the initiative to bring up this matter to Anna and offered her explanations and apologies. It seems that at that time, Linda was under a lot of stress and she doesn’t know how to relieve it and doesn’t know who she can talk to when she’s upset thus having emotional problems. The reason why she left the show halfway through was because she wanted to cry and she thinks that she can’t control it therefore rushing to the toilet to let it out. From this incident, one can imagine that at that point of them, she was under a lot of stress and cried for 3 years. Thank goodness at the start of 2008, TVB gave her 3 weeks holiday to return to Canada to rest. Having not returning to Canada for 3 years, before she boarded the plane, she cried alone at the airport. “My heart was in a twirl and I had lots of emotions and I cried all the time in the plane. The passenger who was sitting beside me offered me a tissue and I replied I was alright and it’s just that I haven’t returned home for a long time.” After the break, Linda mood change for the better and has learnt to relax and not to give herself so much pressure. With so many people praising her, it's obvious that the rumours about her being unpopular and distant are fake. Heidi Chu heard that a TVB programme host also, also said that she heard that many guys in the industry felt that Linda is very untouchable. Firstly, she's very pure, secondly, she has a very good record and does not have many negative rumours, so they see her as a good girl. Ever since she embark in her career, her negative news are equivalent to zero, she’s not arrogant, not late for work and doesn’t club. Magazines often write her as a person who is frugal and till now she still takes the train and does not spend extravagantly. I would really like to know, what on earth Linda has done that so many others are badmouthing about her. Credit : Hannah @ Linda Chung's fans forum http://forum.lindachung.ca
