Just use the bank which you normally use. Debit cards are not a big deal since all banks are somewhat the same. Credit cards are different though. Need to see which place has the best package which suits you the most.

American Express is not a bank. HSBC has a good presence here in the US. I'm pretty shocked that the OP never heard of HSBC here in NY. I guess 2 good banks to get a debit card from is Chase and Bank of America. But to be honest, I think HSBC would be better especially if you like to travel out of the country, cause you can always find HSBC in most country, but you'll never find Chase or Bank of America.

On a side note, itzd0pey, where do you live?

  7. as long as you remember that no bank is your friend and all banks would love to see you in debt, youll be ok

Bank of America is quite good. As MDD has said, there's not much differences for debit card since the fees and service charges are pretty much standard.

The only thing that will make a difference is applying for credit card.

bank of americac ^_^ thats what i use, no complaints. One thing that's ticked me off in the past about plastic though is some places actually dont accept VISA, so maybe consider getting a MASTERCARD if your gonna be going around alot and spending money all across the US. Sure you can find an ATM but at times it's way outta ur way. Last thing about cred cards if u get one, don't cancel the first card you get... ever

http://www.cardweb.com/ <--- good place to look for that cred card, good luck & happy hunting

oh yea.... one other note, BOA has a student package i think... free checking for 5 yrs, and a student credit card... *shrugs* if your not a big spender getting a credit card w/ alot of benefits doesn't do u much good, so simplicity's sake, get the BOA debit and credit if u decide for it. Plus that means easier online management

oh i just checked out their website, it appears theres one near my house LOL , i guess its not very popular, because everyone down here uses washington mutual, but then:
With the new WaMu Free Checking™ account you get $.03 reward for each debit purchase transaction up to $250 per year. , would that mean you have to use ur card over 8000+ times in order to get your $250 ;( ,

HSBC has about 319 rip off cases according to members
    http://ripoffreport.com/searchresul...&q2=&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search!&q5=hsbc

while washington mutual has 280 cases ( accoring to members )
    http://ripoffreport.com/searchresul...chtype=0&submit2=Search!&q5=washington+mutual

    mmm decisions!

Simply check all the popular local banks in your area and look up their policies/costs on checking accounts. I got the Citizens Bank green checking debit account and I got 3 free stacks of checks and I get to use the card without ANY monthly charges for 5+ years (since I'm a student), they would normally charge a monthly fee of $5-6 if you aren't a student.

Oh, and if you're looking into accruing interest for a savings account, do check the APR rates. Doing the YEARLY deal (where you aren't able to withdrawa a certain amount from your savings) will give you the best interest accrual amounts.

    nyckeion ....Boo....

never heard of the best debit card since most debit is safe because you choose ur own pin and they dont protect you if you have ur pin number stolen that is a known fact so u might as well have a credit card with fraud protection
