The upcoming cross-millennium TVB drama, Big Wheel <巨輪>, will be produced by Amy Wong (王心慰), and stars Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣), Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), Kristal Tin (田蕊妮), Louise Lee (李司棋), Louis Yuen (阮兆祥), Louis Cheung (張繼聰), and Ankie Beilke (貝安琪). A costume fitting for the drama was held on September 19, with principal photography to begin in October. The cast and crew will also film on location in Macau for one month. From 1980 to 2013 In an interview with TVB Weekly, Amy Wong described Big Wheel to be “an epic journey through the most turbulent times of Hong Kong and Macau history.” The story begins in 1980, the year that ended the Touch Base Policy, an immigrant policy in Hong Kong that attempted to halt the influx of mainland Chinese immigrants to the territory. The characters will then experience through Macau’s immigration policy changes in 1982, a large-scale gold shop robbery in Hong Kong in 1991, the transfer of Hong Kong sovereignty to China in 1997 and Macau in 1999, the height of Macau’s triad society in 1999, 2003’s SARs epidemic, and the worldwide financial crisis in 2008. Big Wheel’s storyline focuses on the relationship between two half-brothers, older brother Miu Tin Sang (Ruco Chan) and younger brother Law Wai Shun (Edwin Siu). Sang was born in Hong Kong, the son of Chow Yuk Mui (Louise Lee) and police officer Kiu Sam (Joseph Lee 李國麟). When Sam refused to marry Mui, she brought Sang with her to Foshan, China. In Foshan, Mui fell in love with Law Fu Shing (Lau Kong 劉江), and gave birth to their son, Shun, a few years later. Wishing to start a new life in Hong Kong, the family left Foshan and attempted to sneak past the Hong Kong borders. However, the family separated, and only Sang managed to enter Hong Kong. Mui, Shing, and Shun ended up in Macau. Twenty years later, the two brothers led different lives. The ambitious and hardworking Sang studied hard and earned a college degree, later becoming a respectable police officer like his father, Sam. Sang has a caring girlfriend, Rachel Cheuk (Linda Chung), and he is willing to overstep the bounds to fulfill Rachel’s wish of owning a jewelry shop to sell her own designs. To achieve his target, Sang even seduces the beautiful Fabio (Ankie Beilke) and betrays her trust. Sang also shares a mysterious relationship with triad member Keung Yung (Louis Cheung), who will eventually cause Sang to be imprisoned. The simple-minded Shun, however, maintained a peaceful and comfortable lifestyle in Macau, becoming close friends with his neighbors, Yiu Man Ying (Kristal Tin) and Lung Fei (Louis Yuen). To avoid his violent father, he spends most of his days handling his cart noodle shop with his mother.
