Hi, everyone, I am gonna finish paying off my celica GT and planning to add a body kit to it, does anyone know how much its going to be for the installation? I know it depends on the bodyshop but i wanna know what is the price I should be looking at and one more question, I have been seeing lots of performance chips selling everywhere and they are really cheap, the sellers claim that the chips are gonna give the ride bunch of horsepower increase with the low price, is that true? anyone has tried those chips?

i dont know about body kit installation/painting prices, they will vary a great deal from shop to shop, so u cant exactly ask people for quotes on a forum lol.. u just gotta go out or phone a couple places and see what they will charge. and about the chip thing... i drive an Acura and i really only know about HONDATA ECU's and chips. But its a good idea to find a reputable company to buy stuff like that from... make sure to do your research, cuz you can end up buying something that could throw your whole engine management system out of whack and break ur engine.

well body kit wise, usually wen u purchase one, its unpainted, so u gotta paint it too.
installation wouldn't be too hard, depending on the type of kit, some are basically straight bolt on (theres a guide to tell u where to put the nuts n bolts) however, as always theres some that are never a direct fit, and need to be modded slightly

and the computer chip, if nothing else has been done to car, i don't think its even worth to change the ecu. generally speaking, the change in ecu is just a different configuration for the way the engine runs, usually in terms of air/fuel ratio mixes etc. the better ones usually just "self learn"

unless u've done stuff eg exhuast, headers, then there wouldn't be much noticable change in getting ecu (possibly even lose power too!)

the exhuast is probably the best bang for buck increase in hp, along with headers, and then getting something like cai.

keep in mind, increase in hp isn't all ur after. gotta look at ur suspension/stability too

Depends on the body kit as well. If you're getting a kit that requires drilling and you're not too great with a drill, you can easily make the best body kits look like crap in an instant. The fitment is crucial in deciding a body kit. One of the reasons you can instantly spot the difference between a show car and a wannabe.

As for the ebay chips, they don't work. At least not in the way of a true chip tune. They are often nothing more than a diode that clamps your MAF so your engine doesn't see the extra air (which leads to a leaner a/f mix). Such conditions are horrible for the longevity of your engine. Do it right or don't do it at all. Avoid ebay chips, "tornado fuel saver"s, and electric superchargers.

    Cheap
    Power
    Reliability

You can only pick 2, choose wisely.

Theres really no need for a chip, unless your running turbo diesel or plan some engine mods, with it

Don't buy cheap performance stuff on Ebay its not worth it. If you want to know more about car or get some tips about it go to http://www.toyotanation.com/ lots of nice tips on there.

Chips off ebay dont work. In order to improve overall performance, you need quite a lot of performance parts. To increase power, you need to have someone who knows their stuffs to program the chip after having tuned/ modified your car properly.

Hey htownguy, those performance chips are a load of bull****. Seriously don't trust in them. We've had people on our forum test them out for fun and it turned out pretty serious for one of our memebers. He got a CEL and had to take it back to mazda to get it reset -.- set him back like 130 Aus all because of a cheap $12 chip. Keeping it simple, all the chips do is change your preset car air/fuel ratios in the engine management system. Which most cars these days reject or it brings harm in the future....well in our forum's case totally screw us over and give us a CEL -.-. If you really want to play with engine management you are looking would be looking at buying a whole new engine management system. However, they are quite a setback, when it comes to cash.
If your looking for a starters mod, try looking at some cold air systems for your celica - its an easy DIY lol.
As for bodykit, shop around, some are just clip ons from your existing bumper screws and clips, while others a pre-drilled. You also have to look at paint...but yeah research around....or like me join those forums, im sure there will be people in your area on those forums, which would be more than happy to help you. The forums get you started and then addicted in the end :p You have to understand although, some places are expensive, they do great jobs matching paint and are very sleek when it comes to fitment. You just have to ask around or talk to people to see where you can get bang for buck lol

u should get it from the dealer, don't buy from Ebay, it may not fit perfect iin ur car. My cousin already bought it from Ebay, look OK. But he couldn't upgrade the 18" RIM

what type of body kit are you looking for? a lip kit or a full body kit? i usually charge people about 75 to put on a lip kit and about 125 for a full body kit. about painting the kit it really depends on the shop how much they charge. they will charge you labor and paint. you could probabaly look at about 250+ just for install and paint.
i had an intega before and i just lowered it and added some 16in rims.
what type of performance are you looking to get just from a chip. i wouldn't trust any ebay performance chip. the only ones i'll trust are the ones that raises redline. if you want proper hp gain, get it dyno tuned by a pro.

thanks for the advices guys, i guess there is no less bucks for big performance thing, 'yuk fun chin yuk fun for'. well, ah_wong201, im looking for body kit made by either trd or wings west. i called the dealer and some shops earlier and the prices are 800 to 1000. is that a normal charge for the kit?
anyways, i just put in a CAI and lowered the ride, luv it

yea its normal but does that price include paint?? And you must make sure the quailty of the paint or you will be getting chipped paint withing half a year which you would hate..

800-1000 for the whole kit or just the front bumper......for the whole kit that is decent...like everybody else said...don't buy those ebay body kits or you'll have hell to deal with. Also if you get it painted make sure you go to a reputable paint shop...cuz cheapo paint shops won't do a great job and they'll skimp on the clear coat for the pieces.

Clear coat is what makes your care "shine" and protects the paint from the lements...but if you put more the car has this shine feel to it...some of my friends show cars have up to 7 layers of clear coat and it "blings" but for all intenet purposes 3 layers of clear coat is more than enough

Since you have a celica...see if you can buy the stock TRD bodykit from the stealership....those usually come from the factory and are painted to the factory paint standard thus no painting is required, just mount on car and enjoy

in reguards to chipping your car...i've only tested and tried them on euro's and i can say that they do make a difference but they are not the best bang for the buck mod.....a regular chip for a bmw is about 400 and you only get about 10hp and 11 torque gain, but it does remove the top end speed limitor, added an extra 500 rpm to the rev limit and remapped the fuel maps making it eat more gas -_-2 but while making it spunkier

On turbo cars i've seen chips add an extra 50-100hp to the wheel but that is because they have the forced induction to play with...if i remember the celica is a naturally asperated (NA) car...so in terms of hp gains their aren't really any cheap ones...the next mod maybe after your CAI is the exhaust system...after exhaust maybe change up the chamshafts and do some port and polishing that will give you more power but will exponentially increase the car's mod price (to keep your car a NA car)

if you got the money and want just raw power then add a supercharger or a small turbo so you don't feel the turbo lag

man i can keep goin on this topic....-batman
