Boeing 737 parked in Mumbai sidewalk http://archive.gulfnews.com/world/India/10122847.html 05/04/2007 09:17 AM | By Pamela Raghunath, Correspondent Mumbai: Children who had never seen an airplane at close range before were delighted after a Boeing-737 landed on their very own sidewalk. "I have seen planes in the sky but never this close and I only wish I could go inside," said 10-year-old Sarika, living in a Chembur tenement. A 75-foot Boeing 737 of Air Sahara, minus its nose, tail and wings and placed on a trailer, has been parked in Chembur near Duke's factory for the last four days. No one is clear about its owner, its destination and the reason why it is parked there but the young ones are having a field day. Not only them, but some homeless men even found the cargo hold of the plane good enough to be used as a makeshift kitchen. And some even strung a clothesline where the plane's wings once were. The quick ones found an opportunity to whisk away some parts of the plane until the police arrived yesterday to guard it and cover the luggage hatch with a piece of cloth. The last time this plane got stuck was in October 2005 when it overshot the runway while landing at Mumbai's airport, skidded on the tarmac and then got stuck in the soft soil. It took several days of manoeuvres to lift the plane off the ground and shunt it off to a corner of the airport complex. In the process it had caused enormous traffic delays as the runway could not be used. And now, it has once again become temporarily immovable and is causing traffic jams, irritating local shopkeepers whose business has been affected. Its journey started from the airport at around 3am local time on Sunday to make its way to the Mumbai-Pune highway after it was auctioned off to a dealer who is planning to sell it to Manpreet Singh, who runs an adventure sports firm and plans to renovate the it for the enjoyment of kids eager to know how the inside looks. "Due to a technical fault, the trailer could not be moved out of the narrow road and will now require at least three or four cranes to get it moving and back on the main road," said a source at the Trombay police station. "Since any attempts to get it moving in the day would choke the traffic, we will ensure that it will be moved out tonight," he said. Looks like a new attraction to me. Or is this a new Indian product plane
i guess its just more of a rare sight but then ppl going inside making it their own home is kinda messed up
