Well what kinda car you want?

I suggest getting the typical Accord/Camry. Although i've heard that the Sonata and Passat has been getting good reviews.

Actually i've heard that some hybrids dont really save that much gas anymore. The electric motor just provides extra acceleration.
    Eg) Accord hybrid V6 sedan

the only hybrids that will do much saving in long term is 4 cylinder hybrids. Hybrids like the accord and highlander and RX400 probably won't save you much with the extra cost you pay just to get the hybrid. If you're gas conscious just get like a 4 cylinder. THat stuff runs fast nowadays especially the new civic at 168 horsepower. Corollas aren't as powerful as the new civics are rated at 128 hp. for < 20000 around 18000 u might be able to get a 4 cylinder camry. Accords might run a bit higher. 20000-30000 u can get almost all midsize sedans, and some suv's. and a bmw 3 series and such. Its up to you. Acura TSX isn't bad. between toyota and honda the upper hand right now goes to honda i'd say cuz their exteriors have been re designed. Toyota's living off 4-5 year old exteriors on most of their cars.

Well, it all depends on your budget, what/why you need a car, and personal preferences (i.e. Asian vs. American cars)....

Personally, I'm in love with BMW's 3-Series... and Audi's A4.... so of course i would recommend these cars... I also recommed Honda Civic, I once had one and it was pretty stable and the value doesn't depreciate... actually the value of almost all japanese cars don't depreciate as quickly as american cars... (ex. a 95 civic can still fetch for 6000$, which is quite high for a car that old) so it's a worthwhile investment when you buy japanese :)
