I'm still new in burning dvd, really need help here.If I wanna backup my computer data like mp3,avi/rmvb movies/pictures .....can I burn them at 16x? By the way,is there such thing as gold dics as those like gold cdr?Cos most I saw in dvd r media is like purple/blue.....Please enlighten....thank you
If the box or packaging says it can burn at 16x then by all means do so. However, I'd burn at 8x to be careful. The color doesn't really matter, however there are dual-layered dvds that go up to 8 gb I believe.
thanks , by the way I heard that there are fake branded dvd r media out there?Anyway to know which is the real deal?
Where are you buying them from? I'm sure most places sell legit blank dvds...Nevermind lol, you live in malaysia.
can we do other things like watching movies or surfing while we burn a disc? and does data verification need to be done or just burn?
^ yes you can but of course depends on your pc specs data verification helps re-check the disk to make sure there are no errors in it (checks disk data with source data) but if you keep getting data ver errors then its probably something to do with your pc's memory (most of the time, errors with data ver are caused by memory errors) i'm guessing you are using nero, if so i suggest you use determine speed too as sometimes if the data source is slow then burning at a higher speed will result in bad data on the disk
Thanks,I'm using Amd Phenom X4 processor and 4gb Kingston 1066 ram.....i can't help but doing other thing when I burn a disc cos it's kinda boring to wait for the burn to finishes ....so is my system okay to do so?
It's not recommended to do anything on a computer while you're burning a dvd, quality might be affected. Yes, you can skip the data verification, I do that all the time and all the dvds I burned had no problem.
You can multi-task when the drive is burning like surf the web etc as long as it is not memory intensive and general stuff only, the min i think you should have is dual core and at least 2GB ram. So it should be ok with anything that doesn't require a lot of read or write access to the hard drive. In other words if the hard drive is accessing or receiving data it may not be able to keep the buffer full which is need to write the DVD. it be better if you have 2 separate drives too as say for example whatever your doing is on a different drive to where nero stores its temporary files (whatever your doing on drive C: and nero on D:, note not separate partitions literally 2 hard drives) then this will have little effect on the buffer You should also be careful to what brand of disks you use, in my experience I found verbatim to be the best as their fail rate is low in their dvds, by this i mean like the discs themselves are faulty (and no its not my burner thats the problem and since my computer is shit I don't multi-task). Out of 100 for verbatim, if I am unlucky 1 to 3 duds whereas with the stuff i got in HK out of 100 i get duds >20 and with maxwell and memorex around 5 to 10 out 100 discs . But of course it depends if you can get any where you are
I bought TDK cos i thought they're the best since I use tdk cdr last time....actually also because i used to buy TDK blank cassettes ...but yeah now im getting to know verbatim....i'm sure will be my next choice when I get new discs.Yeah, mostly what i do is just surf the net while doin a burn
the blank dvdr media i got is 4.5gb....can i burn say 4.4 gb of data in it or should i leave some space?
I max them out almost every time, I burn. 4.5GB? are you sure? I hear of 4.7Gb, 4.35GB not 4.5.....hmmm, typo?
I prefer not to max the speed, cos it's like, well you never max anything lor. just the one before the max. as for media, use anything u like, but make sure if its really important, to have more than 1 copies
for those of you that live in NYC, staples is having a sale on dvd. HP DVD+ or - R, a spiral of 50 DVD is $6.98. It the cheapest price i have seen so far. SONY DVD is also on sale but it not very cheap this time. for ur local staples i guess check the circular online.
