After years of busing... I realize I really, really, really hate it. So I decided to get a job and earn money to purchase a used car. So far I've earned around 2k and I have a few used cars in mind that I plan to purchase.

So far my preferable choices are:

    1994 - 97 Acura Integra
    1992 - 95 Honda Prelude
1992 - 96 Honda Civic Hatch, Coupe, Sedan
    1990 - 98 VolksWagon Golf, Jetta

If possible a 240sx or eclipse aswell but those are abit over my budget.

Any opinions or little facts I need to know b4 purchasing?

umm.. where are you? United States? if so what part?
I would choose Acura Integra mostly..
if you can find it for under 3k that is.
Integra is DOHC B18B1 Engine 140hp for LS and RS not sure about GS
Prelude is a SOHC for standard but DOHC for vtec which is SI models.. http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1992-to-1996-honda-prelude-4.htm
Civic is also a SOHC too lazy to list the engines.. http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1992-to-1995-honda-civic-4.htm

edit: for Nissan 240.. it is just a bit hard to find now.. thats the problem and the price might be high also.

Ouu im not that educated in cars... So that means the Integra would b the fastest out of the few? I live in Canada.. I've seen a bunch of integras under 3k in km is all ;)

well DOHC engines are just more better than SOHC mostly. twin cam vs single cam..
mostly Honda use SOHC for most engines but they use DOHC in Acura Integra and some higher end models.

lol ur in cad? i dont' suggest a 240 then unless ur real confident in ur driving... there's a reason the car is considered a drifters car, pair that with icy roads, even with a set of real good snow tires, looking at some unintentional fish tailings... 3k cad won't get u much i imagine, ur best bet would be a used civic... of the cars u listed, i think the best would be a lude Si... i guess that would be an sr-v up there...

like this one http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/cto/949756842.html <---- i wet my pants for something like this if i had a 3k max budget

    1994 - 97 Acura Integra - high insurnace
    1992 - 95 Honda Prelude - high insuranct
1992 - 96 Honda Civic Hatch, Coupe, Sedan - sedan is good
    1990 - 98 VolksWagon Golf, Jetta - asians don't drink VW lol

    wat about accord? like 94-95

240sx is not good for winter

  7. speaking of busing, a lot TTC and YRT drivers are huge losers

3K canadian cant get you a good condition 3rd generation integra

    3K would be a second gen 1990-1993

my first car was a 1991 integra LS

and my second car was a 1990 integra LS, both of them served me well for a couple of years until i worked my way into my lexus. I'd recommend them, the manual trannies on them have pretty long gear throws and a crazy long clutch, but they are good winter cars and fairly nippy in terms of speed... 130 HP

    CB7 Honda Accord.
No need for power for your first car. Manual is always rewarding after you've mastered it.

DA9 Integra is good too but all Integras are thief magnets.

EG Civic is good too but at 93hp 12-16 years ago, there's probably 80hp now. I wouldn't touch them. It has so little power it is getting dangerous.

Forget the S13 240SX / Silvia. Drift tax is very high.

Volkswagen, never heard of the joke "torch on wheels" ? It's plagued with electric problems which may result in
    your VW = flameball.

Final verdict: CB7 Accord. Relatively big, cheap on insurance, accessible parts and possibility to make it look awesomez later.

^^ I agree with gordan. CB7's are your best choice right now. CB7's are selling now for wayyy less then 3k. But those cars are prone to rear quarter panel rust, so if your can find one with none or little then jump on it. Also when time comes, you can drop a H22 in there. They have the same motor mounts too. :whistling:

There's crazy aftermarket support for that car here in Canada/ USA and in Japan.

Stay away from the 99-00 Civic SiR's. Those are Canada's number one most stolen cars. They have a fast motor, B16A6 I think.... I don't remember. and they don't have immobilizers also which make then super easy to steal.

silvia ftw!! that's wat i did! lolz...
just gotta make sure not to write it off going sideways... hahaha

but on a serious note, u want a reliable car that will get u a to b
and a rwd drifting car ain't one...
especially with most sports cars that are that old, most of them u expected to be thrashed already, which means more $$ to throw in to fix up all the issues

for ur standard car, u don't want attention so it'll less likely get scratched/keyed/stolen...

2nd day out with my car and it got frekin keyed =(

as with all cars, it'd be "ideal" if they log books so u can confirm the mileage/service history etc
of course, it'd be nice to get one that hasn't been in accident/damage but with older cars, its hard to find and don't expect too much

main issue is rust. if u have some friends or a mechanic that can go and check out the car with u, that'd be best. that way u can try to pick up on as many potential issues and whether that'd b costly to fix

being realistic, 15yo car, its def old and will have problems
just got to be aware of it and know that u have to fix it, and hopefully its not one of those big issues

another advice would be, don't rush
wait til u find the one u like/want (unless a bargain comes up!)

It should be. Cheap, roomy, cheaper insurance, and lots of parts for it.

......and take it to the North Pole. :p
