Looking for a new digital camera. Price isn't really an object but value is important. Any suggestions?

If price isn't an object why ask for help? Just get a high quality Nikon or Canon. If that's not what your looking for can you please specify?

By the way I'm talking about cameras above the $1000 CAD price tag

depends what you want, a digital SLR or a simple point and shoot camera

I have the Ricoh R6 (7.2megapixel, 7.1x optical zoom, image stabilisation and its cheaper than the Panasonic tz3) and its pretty decent point and shoot, mid way between expensive and cheap so its great value

have a look on digital camera review sites, google is your friend

hmmm.,....depends on what ya want the camera for......like...if ya ant it to just take random family and friend pictures or to take photos like a hobby...as if ya want like the top of the range and have like great lenses then you need to look into..the specialist cameras and stuff...

so all in all.....depends on what you want to do with the camera to be able to see what sort of digi cam to recommend...

i have a cannon sd630 its pretty nice

  6. im sure this person isnt looking for an slr/eos.. if he/she was, he/she wouldve told us, and wouldnt have needed our help in finding an slr/eos digicam.. so most likely, this person is looking for a point and shoot camera..

depending on the type of point-and- shoot cameras, some can take pictures just like, or better, than slr cameras.. thats IF you know how to use one to the best of its abilities, and you know photography.

i personally have a canon powershot a570 is, considering i have no money for a d-slr. but, i have purchased a few lenses that can be attached onto this camera, and maximize the zoom.

the canon a570 is can take pictures in manual mode, and auto mode.. it can have lens attachments, but what i also bought it for, is its video recording feature, compared to others like sony or panasonic... canon has the best video recording of the three for a digicam... i didnt want to buy a camcorder cuz its too expensive for a non-minidv or dvd cam..

i also have a nikon 8800.. a discontinued model, but it the level above point-and- shoots.. either auto/manual, it has high zoom capabilities, and other features..

    looks similar to minoltas...

Thanks, I was just looking for a point and shoot. I am going to wait for the new Samsung and decide between that and the Cannon and the Sony of the same class. Whenever I read reviews I will just revert to dividing features by the price.

  8. sony is good for its high resolution pictures... a point and shoot camera by sony can go up to 10 mega pixels... but i find the pictures some what grainy..

samsungs on the other hand, well.. its decent.. a lot of cameras by samsung, i find, dont have as many features as other brands...

canon or nikon, considering they specialize in photography, would be the best choice in my opinion..

Another question to ask is whether or not you're looking for compactness, because that most likely indirectly decides what size/quality lens you're going to get. Also, anything over 8MP is essentially not of much use for the average user...meaning for people who make poster sized prints. But then again, some of those do have better image processors and ISO sensitivity.

About Samsung, I like their design direction on all their products lately. Say, why does their camera division(?) have a separate site? I also want to point out that in the not-so-distant past, their lower end camera models came with relatively horrid lenses compared to the competition. The amount of available functions/modes/settings on all their models are very good though.
