Car for new driver?

My parents want to get me a car so I can start learning. We're looking at a VW Golf, Mazda 3 and the Honda Civic. The price/budget is around 25-30,000. One of the problems we're having is with the gold - my dad insists on getting it (lol), but my mum's saying its too expensive, as I can't drive the turbo version (which is the cheapest option) of it - cause of the RTA car restrictions.

Any recommendations? I've only just started learning, but they want me to learn in a small car so that's why they want to get me a car.

EDIT: problem solved. changing insurance so im driving a sedan atm.

  2. where you from?

anyways, my first car i ever drove was an extended van. my second is a jeep. you don't need to learn on a small car.

as for the money aspect, the notion of entry level cars (mazda3, corolla, civic, echo) is cheapest, is wrong. i can buy a used entry level luxury for less than a used corolla (if you dig well, you can find some in excellent condition). unless of course... you like corollas civics and echos

dig for some low level luxury cars, you may run into some luck and get an excellent condition car, for cheap

I would say golf.. but for a new driver.. you might want to go with a used car and let them practice

meh. its to replace one of the cars we have atm - so they're not just buying it for me - they're trying to have a car for me to have in mind to drive as im learning, then for me to drive it once i get my P's, and also for my siblings to drive when they;re learning as well. They want a safe car as well.. so they're willing to buy something decent.. so yea.

lots of ppl have said that driving a big car is actually better.. (we have a big car but im a bit hesitant about driving it) ..

@ evo, yea thats tru. my rents are kinda split over what to get haha. my dad insists on getting a golf cause of what his friends have told him .(he's kinda stubborn and really obsessed with european cars). my mum thinks that its too expensive of a car for me to drive... and wants to go with a honda civic (perhaps a demo)

i say get a 2nd hand mid size car. on your Ls you're most likely wont crash it but once you get your Ps, u're most likely to crash it and look at the insurance side of things. it would be alot cheap to insure.

my parents are a funny lot.

anyways... they decided to put the new car on hold.. and just change insurances for our smaller car. insurance is quite expensive.. since its not a cheap car.. and im a unexperienced driver. i hope i dont crash it lol

The car that I learnt in apart from my instructor's car (which was a CItreon C3), I learnt in my parents car which is Honda Civic... It's good practice I guess for how different cars and how the steering differs?

I would say a USED VW Golf :) coz a lot of my friend has it.. currently my genuine first car is mazda2 which isn't much different to mazda3 but maybe a little smaller..
