Catching up with JJ Lin on his hasty home visit "Produce in Singapore, Made in Taiwan" is what local singer JJ Lin is about. The 27-year-old, who has a successful career in Taiwan and China, is always moving hastily when he is home. Also a songwriter, JJ reveals his ungratifying moments in song productions. Hi JJ, how long have you been away from Singapore? JJ: Almost two months. I'm usually back for just a few days and it's for work purposes. I spend most of my time in Taiwan, and sometimes in China to attend events. How do you relax when you are back home? JJ: I'll usually hang out with my friends for a meal, watch a movie or play games. These are also what I used to do before I became a singer. When I'm home, the most important thing to do is to embrace the moments with friends and family. Do you drink? JJ: I cannot hold my liquor. Will you hang out at cafe or pub for drinks? JJ: My friends will take alcohol while I'll take the non-alcoholic beverages. We were saying that you usually spend just a few days in Singapore whenever you are back here. Music may have brought you happiness and satisfaction but you have also lost the leisure time that most youths enjoy. Do you regret? JJ: I will try not to think of it as something lost. In such situations, you gain some, you lose some. It is not something bad; you just need to adjust your mentality and get used to the environment. I think that's life; face it with optimism and you will find fun in it. We usually see the healthy and happy side of you. Is there any point in time that you feel ungratified? JJ: Of course I do! For example? JJ: When I have no inspirations. I write many fast-beat songs but sometimes I meet with bottlenecks and feel frustrated. How do you get over it? JJ: I think it's very emotional. Every artiste has their own emotions to work out. Many times we depend on our fans, colleagues and family for support and encouragement. We need friends to support and help us too. Where do you usually get your inspirations? JJ: I get my inspirations from my life; the funny things, happy and touching moments, sorrows; they are all sources of inspirations. It's like writing a diary. End of 2008, you released your new album "JJ Look. Are you satisfied with the responses at the moment? JJ: I'm very satisfied with this new album because it offered many fresh perspectives. It also opens up another door for me in music and made me realized that there are many ways of presenting it. It also represents my perception about life. What plans do you have for 2009? Your concert in March is approaching. JJ: I hope to retain some of my previous attitudes about music. I am actually very playful in person and like to tease and play pranks on my friends. I hope to bring such agility and flexibility onto the stage and inject more reality into the concert. I'll also be trying out some different dance genres this time round. We are definitely looking forward to the concert. Hope the music and visuals will bring us closer to you. JJ: I have planned a surprise for the audience. Besides Fan Weiqi (Taiwanese singer more affectionately known as Fan Fan) and my junior BY2, many of my idols will be "showing up" too. I'll be having an imitation segment, where I'll mimick my idols and make their presence be felt. This year, I'll also be working on my seventh album. We're really glad to have spoken to you and are full of anticipations for your concert and new album. Here's wishing you a successful performance and a fulfilling 2009. Hope you can have some time off work to take a good rest in Singapore. JJ World Tour Concert 2009 will be held in the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Mar 28, 8pm.
