After the 45th TVB Anniversary Awards concluded on December 17, complaints have already poured in questioning the fairness of the results. Wayne Lai’s (黎耀祥) third Best Actor award came as a surprise to many expecting Raymond Lam (林峰) to win instead. Now Tavia Yeung’s (楊怡) Best Actress win is also speculated to be an “tampered” result. It was rumored that Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) may be the rightful winner instead.

According to results released by TVB, there were 1.543 million total votes placed for the Anniversary Awards voting over a one-week span. Wayne Lai received 114,947 votes and Tavia Yeung received 110,795 votes. When Heaven Burns <天與地> unexpectedly won the Best Series award with 84,472 votes.

    Charmaine Sheh Sacrificed?

A TVB insider revealed that Charmaine Sheh had in fact received the most votes for Best Actress due to the popularity of When Heaven Burns. However, Charmaine is no longer a TVB managed artist, thus the results were allegedly “adjusted” to make Tavia Best Actress instead.

    Raymond Lam Fans Upset

Overnight, TVB received 24 complaints over the unfairness of the Best Actor results. Fans, who were in disbelief that Raymond Lam lost the popular vote despite his sizable fan base, urged to examine the results of all the votes placed.

TVB Will Not Reveal Complete Voting Results

TVB Deputy Director of External Affairs, Tsang Sing Ming (曾醒明), immediately pacified cries of unfairness over the voting results, although he said the company will not reveal the complete votes each nominee had received.

Regarding questions as to why the number of votes for Wayne and Tavia had a significant gap from the total pool of 1.543 million votes, Tsang Sing Ming explained, “There were a total of 1.543 million votes, not unique voters. The voters may not have participated in voting for all three categories. They may have only voted in one awards category. There were 10 finalists for Best Actor, 10 finalists for Best Actress, and 24 nominees for Best Series. So the results are proportional.”

Tsang added that TVB did not “pump up” any votes and that all results were fair.

Damn it got rigged. Understandable but it doesn't seem fair. Who cares if Raymond have a huge fan base, it's not about how many fans you got but how good you really were in acting
