Popular comedian and actor, Cheung Tat Ming (張達明), has been facing cancer with optimism. After his illness was exposed by the media last week, the 48-year-old actor posted on his Weibo several times to assure the public that he is doing well and slowly recovering.

Tat Ming wrote, “Thank you, friends. Whether you are from the (entertainment) circle or not; whether you have a ‘V’ or not; whether I know you personally or not. I have read all of your encouragements and blessings. They are all placed in my heart.”

    Tat Ming Prepares a Will

Despite his positivism, Tat Ming is prepared for the worst to come. Diagnosed with stage III nasopharyngeal cancer, Tat Ming had to receive platinum-based chemotherapy drug treatment, which severely contaminated his blood. It caused his blood to contain 63 times more platinum levels than the average person, and he must receive detoxification treatments to remove the excess. As a result, Tat Ming halted his jobs and consulted with both western and eastern medical doctors.

Tat Ming and his two children, a 10-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter, are now relying on his wife’s sole income, who works as a clinical psychologist. Sudden Weekly reported that Tat Ming has already prepared a will, planning to transfer all of his assets to his wife. According to the will, his estate – including his bank account and his two properties in Sai Kung and Wong Chuk Hang – will be transferred to his wife.

Tat Ming also had intentions to sell their house in Sai Kung and rent a flat to live in instead so he can accumulate more cash for his wife. She objected, and insisted that he should stay in Sai Kung due to the better environment. With fresher air and larger living quarters, Tat Ming will be able to recover faster.

Tat Ming met his wife, Ho Nim Chi (何念慈), when she was in college. After dating for 12 years, they finally married in September 2001. Nim Chi frequently attended public functions and parties with her husband, and religiously supported Tat Ming’s stand-up comedy shows and concerts.
