Chilam Cheung (張智霖) and wife Anita Yuen (袁詠儀) have been hoping for a daughter for many years, but their busy schedules kept them from fulfilling their wish. When the couple went out last night with good friend Calvin Choy (蔡一智) and his family, Chilam showed his fondness towards Calvin’s daughter China, doting on her instead of son Morton Cheung (張慕童). Currently promoting the upcoming TVB drama Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II>, Chilam expressed confidence in the series and spoke about the drama’s theme song controversy.

Since the birth of their son Morton in 2006, Chilam and Anita have tried many tactics to conceive a daughter. To make sure Anita is in tip-top health, the couple sought help from Chinese medicine and visited a Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist master teacher, for blessings. Chilam and Anita also hoped to boost their luck by moving into their Repulse Bay residence, a unit with great feng shui and a pricey monthly rent of $200,000 HKD. Despite all of their efforts, their busy schedules prevented them from trying for a second child.

On July 8, Chilam, Anita, and Morton met up with Grasshopper‘s Calvin Choy and his family to do some shopping in Central. Around 8 p.m., Calvin’s wife Winessa Chow (周雪芳) and their daughter China went into a supermarket to shop for groceries. During this time, Calvin and Chilam’s family remained outside of the store and chatted with each other. Afterwards, the group proceeded down an escalator to get to Chilam’s car. While on the escalator, Chilam repeatedly turned around to play with China and fed her snacks, acting as if she is his very own.

As the group reached street level, Chilam’s energetic son Morton ran off towards the road. Calvin was first to notice and quickly pulled Morton back onto the pedestrian walkway. The two families eventually made their way to Chilam’s vehicle and left together.

Chilam went to work at TVB today and reporters took the opportunity to ask him to comment about Triumph in the Skies 2. Chilam seemed confident about the show and thinks it will be well-received. “I am looking forward to it. I saw five episodes when I was doing post-production dubbing. I really enjoyed watching the show and I am not worried about ratings at all.”

Recently, fans of the original series expressed criticism over TVB’s choice of having veteran singer George Lam (林子祥) perform the theme song for the upcoming sequel. The company has already received 51 complaints before the show even aired, many believe that the theme song would be unsuitable for the series since the song sounds outdated. When asked to comment about this controversy, Chilam laughed, “This is a first! This shows that everyone cares a lot about the series. The viewers may have made a biased assumption!”
