With Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) and Chilam Cheung’s (張智霖) presence, Triumph in the Skies 2’s <衝上雲霄Ⅱ> ratings continue to keep up positive momentum. Among the characters, Chilam’s Captain Cool role is highly popular and in turn, even his 6-year-old son, Morton Cheung (張慕童), is a big fan.

Throughout the years, Chilam’s on screen characters have left deep impressions on viewers, including his roles in The Legend of the Condor Heroes <射鵰英雄傳> and Return of the Cuckoo <十月初五的月光>. With both series garnering high ratings, TVB executives have persistently pursued Chilam. He had previously rejected the filming for Triumph in the Skies 2 but because of his close friendship with TVB executive, Tommy Leung (梁家樹), Chilam finally accepted.

No Thoughts On Becoming TV King

“Before filming started, the producers and script writers all gathered to talk about what kind of image we’d create for me. I felt as though there should be a contrast between my role and Sam’s (Francis Ng), where one should be laid-back and one should be serious. So my character was born from Sam’s exact opposite.” Despite being the flirtatious and popular pilot on screen, Chilam voiced his challenges with filming. He explained that since he is rather low-key in real life, playing such a high-profile playboy has its difficulties.

Chilam also has a lot of romantic scenes with Holiday (Fala Chen 陳法拉). However, to prevent further complaints from audience members, TVB decided to cut out a rather risky scene the pair has filmed in England. In that scene, Jayden (Chilam) and Holiday were seen freely riding a motorcycle and stole wine from an ancient museum. And while drinking, Holiday teases Jayden by sitting on his lap and covering his eyes with a scarf. Then Fala further pushes Chilam’s buttons by taking off their clothes. However, the scene will remain in the overseas broadcast version.

It was rumored that because the scene was too bold for Hong Kong viewer standards, it was eventually taken out. Chilam explained that no one really knows the editing process because it is up to the management team and the station to decide, and regardless of what is cut, everyone put in their best work.

Despite his widespread popularity, Chilam did not give the TV King title a second thought. The experience with working with Francis and participating in the production was rewarding enough for him.

Morton Is Captain Cool’s Number 1 Fan

Chilam revealed that his son Morton is a big fan of Triumph in the Skies 2.“He watches it every night and pretends he’s Captain Cool! He would also play with airplane models and get me to film him.” Morton would often times refer to himself as a Mini Captain and look up to Chilam as a role model. Besides his son, Anita Yuen (袁詠儀) also anticipates every episode and would urge Chilam to not spoil the plot for her. Receiving such encouragement from family members, Chilam made a good decision in accepting Captain Cool’s role.

TVB aint giving anyone the award other than the signed artists....Kwnneth ma is probably gonna get it....
