I'm amazed at how thoughtful and pro-active the Chinese government can be. They are spending so much money on green energy and tackling climate change. Maybe the U.S. should turn communist and start solving some of its problems instead of the Republicans and Democrats always trying to beat each other. LOL ....just a thought... Party leaders vow to tackle climate change Agence France-Presse in Beijing 4:49pm, Nov 27, 2009 Email to friend Print a copy Bookmark and Share Mainland Communist Party leaders pledged during a meeting on Friday to "actively" tackle climate change and stick to its current fiscal and monetary policies, state-run media reported. “The country will step up construction of major projects related to energy conservation and environmental protection next year,” Xinhua news agency quoted the meeting of the Politburo, chaired by President Hu Jintao, as deciding. “Attendees... agreed that the country should maintain the continuity and stability of the macroeconomic policies,” it added. The leadership also agreed to next year “implement, enrich and improve” the stimulus package aimed at tackling the global financial crisis, Xinhua said. China unveiled an unprecedented four-trillion-yuan (US$586 billion) stimulus package a year ago at the height of the global crisis. The economy has rebounded strongly, growing 8.9 per cent in the third quarter from 7.9 per cent in the second and 6.1 per cent in the first three months of the year, the slowest pace in more than a decade. But Beijing is under pressure to rebalance China’s economy by reducing its reliance on exports and investment as the main drivers of growth and boost domestic demand. “More efforts would be made to improve the quality and efficiency of economic growth, to promote the expansion of the economic development pattern and structural adjustments,” Xinhua said. “The government would focus more on promoting innovation and reform and opening up, and enhancing the momentum and vigour of economic growth.” The meeting, called to review economic policies for the year ahead, came a day after China unveiled for the first time its specific targets for curbing growth in carbon emissions by 2020. Xinhua gave no other details. Senior leaders had said recently that China would stick to its “moderately loose” monetary policy as the government sought to help lift the economy out of a slowdown triggered by the global financial crisis.
